Brighton won the Nationwide Second Division today, drawing with Swindon at the Withdean. This and Readings 2-2 draw at Peterborough ensured Brighton claimed the title. The Seagulls, who had already gained promotion, now know for certain that the title trophy will be at the Withdean next season.

Brighton, who won the Third Division last year, have joined the likes of Fulham, e.g. as a team that has been promoted twice in two years. This is quite n achievement for a team that finished second last in the Third Division as recently as 1997.

With star striker Booby Zamora appearing to stay at club, and an impending decision on the planning application for the new stadium at Falmer, things have not looked as good for the Seagulls in years. Many long-time fans will think of the words of the song by the clubs most famous supporter, Fatboy Slim:

Through the hard times and the good,
