Gills suffer third consecutive defeat

Gillingham suffer their third consecutive defeat to Northampton Town. Gillingham didn't deserve the points and were booed off. The Gills were frustrated time and time again by the Cobbler's towards the end and could well have equalised but for a narrow miss by Guylian Ndumbu-Nsungu.

The Cobbler's took the lead twenty three minutes into the game, after a controversial free kick was given. Randolph came out but collided with Gills defender Ian Cox, Sancho did block a shot on the goal line but Kirk tucked away the rebound.

The Gills could have easily equalised though not long after, when Andrew Crofts saw his effort saved, as did Dean McDonald.

After beeing booed off after the half-time whistle, the Gills looked to equalise earley in the second period. But were still frustrated by late interceptions by the Cobbler's. The Gills played the game with the ball in the air for most of it which frustrated the Gills crowd.

Gillingham then had another chance when Danny Jackman's cross found Mulligan who saw his shot well saved by Cobbler's 'keeper Bunn.

Mulligan then made way for Guylian Ndumbu-Nsungu on 70 minutes who seemed to inspire the Gills. As soon as he came on the Gills seemed to be playing a lot better. The Gills had earlier in the game been to scared to shoot, but 'Dave' showed them how to do it with a speculative 20 yard shot, off target but nevertheless a start.

Then Flynn's through ball found 'Dave' who's close range effort just went over the cross-bar. The Gills battled on though but were frustrated time and time again. Five minutes of injury time was given after the Cobbler's 'keeper wasting time, who was finally booked in injury time.

So after a pretty poor display by The Gills, who now sit in the bottom section of League 1, the shall look to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat away at Millwall on tuesday in the League Cup.
