Jack denies long lay-off

Gillingham and Trinidad and Tobago international Kelvin Jack has denied rumours that he is set for a long injury lay-off. In fact, he claims that now Darren Randolph has signed on loan, he will have to fight for his place in the Gills squad.

Jack has been suffering from a persistent injury since the World Cup, and it was rumoured that since Jepson completing the signing of Charlton stopper Darren Randloph, Jack would take a long rest to fully recover from his persistent injury.

Talking to the TTFF, the Gills stopper said, "All I am focusing on at the moment is regaining fitness, and at the moment I am fighting tooth and nail to be fit for Saturday's match against Blackpool, anything that happens after that, I will focus on then.

"There is another 'keeper here now and I have to be on my toes, so I am just desperate to get back to full fitness and repay the gaffer for the faith he's shown in me. I'm continuing to work with (club physiotherapist) Simon Webster, and it's really a day-to-day thing."

Meanwhile Gillingham's fixture against Scunthorpe next Friday has been postponed following Brent Sancho and Kelvin Jack being called up to the Trinidad & Tobago squad, and Andrew Crofts has been called up to the Welsh squad. That would leave only 17 players to chose from and Scunthorpe have agreed to postponed the game. The new date is yet to be arranged.
