Crewe Alexandra v Gillingham

Gillingham travel to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday in search of their second consecutive victory. Gillingham unconvincingly defeated Cheltenham Town last Saturday by two goals to one. Crewe on the other hand thrashed Carlisle five goals to one.

Gillingham travel to Crewe hoping for their second in as many games on Saturday. The last time the two sides met in the League it was in the Championship at Priestfield where Gillingham were in search for a vital victory to help them on their way to Championship safety, but the game finished in a draw which in the end sent th Gills down to League One. Many Gills fans will remeber the last time the Gills travelled to Alexandra Road, the Gills lost 4.1 and Hessenthaler resigned not long after that game.

Kelvin Jack is still sidelined with a knee injury and Scott Flinders who had his loan deal extended on Thursday, is set to continue his role in between the sticks. Brent Sancho is also still ruled out of the game having picked up a knee injury.

Gary Mulligan has missed the last two games having been studded in the chest in the game with Swansea.

Andrew Crofts has been called up to the Wales squad and shall miss out on the trip to Alexandra Road.

David Vaughan misses the game after being called up to the Welsh squad joining Gills' Andrew Crofts.

Crewe's top goalscorer Nicky Maynard is rated doubtfu for the visit of the Gills as does Luke Varney. The duo are yet to train this week and Lee Mathews looks set to return to the side.

Gillingham fans are put in the Blue Bell BMW stand which is along one side of the pitch opposite the Air Products stand which is the largest stand at Gresty Road. The whole of the Blue Bell BMW is given to away supporters which allocates 1,680 supporters. Tickets cost £18 for adults, £14.50 for over 60's, £8 for juniors and £4 for under 11's.

It's a difficult place to go, they play at a good tempo and have good movement all over the park, and that's a credit to Dario. Most of the lads have come through the ranks at Crewe and know what's expected of them, and what he does is quite incredible, the amount of players he has coming through, but he works extremely hard at it and he has a good structure at the place, he's a credit to the game,"

Ian Cox:"Any game you play, no-one is going to lay down and give you three points. If you want three points you have to work very, very hard for it. Going up to Crewe is going to be no different, they're renowned from playing good football. I know personally over the years we've been playing against them, it's not been an easy place to get points and I'm sure it's not going to be any different on Saturday."


Man in the Middle: The man officiating the Gills' game with Crewe on Saturday is Eddie Ilterton. Ilterton has officiated just one Gills game which was at Preston North End, where the Gills lost by three goals to nothing. He made two cautions in that game one being shown at Gills' Sidibe. This is his fifth season as a league referee and shown 15 red cards during his career.
