Gills in stunning comeback

Dean McDonald and Gary Mulligan scored injury time goals to fire Gillingham into a two goals to one victory. Mulligan scored the equaliser in the 91st minute following good work by Matty Jarvis and Dean McDonald scored a stunning left footed volley twelve yards out.

It was a dull first half at Priestfield which saw a stunning comeback in injury time of the second half seeing Gary Mulligan score his third goal at Priestfield in as many home games.

Mark Hughes was making his debut for Chesterfield and scored five minutes from the interval. Hughes' shot was deflected and went past Gills 'keeper Kelvin Jack.

Not long before that, an error by Trinidian 'keeper Kelvin Jack almost gave the Spireites the lead. Jack failed to deal with a corner but thankfully for Gillingham Larkin failed to find a half open net firing well over the bar.

Chesterfield could have doubled their lead though when poor defending allowed Larkin again to get one on one with keeper Kelvin Jack only for Jack to superbly deny Larkin doubling Chesterfields advantage pulling off a fine save.

Many Gills fans had left the stadium following a fine shot by Mulligan superbly denied by Roche, and then Leon Johnson smashing the crossbar.

Many Gills fans thought it was just one of those days but that was all about to change in stunning fashion. The equaliser came when Gills star Matty Jarvis did well on the wing and got in a low cross for Gary Mulligan to fire home for his third goal at Priestfield in as many home games.

Gillingham fans then got behind the team for the final minute to create a brilliant atmosphere. Then Duncan Jupps balls found Dean McDonald who fired a stunning left foot volley from twelve yards out going straight into the top left corner to send Gillingham fans mad. Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland couldn't believe it and neither could Ronnie Jepson.

Chesterfield shall feel hard done by but Gills fans shall feel satisfied as the Gills have squandered wins four times to many this season.

The possesion was shared 50/50 at Priestfield between the Gills and Spireites, but the Gills had the most shots on target with five shots on target to Chesterfields four. Gillingham also had the most shots off target too with six shots going wide to Chesterfields one. The Gills also dominated on corners with six corners to Chesterfields five. The spirerites committed the most fouls though with fifteen fouls to Gillingham's seven.
