FA Cup 1st Round-up

We round up all the best from the FA Cup First Round proper. We round up the shocks and also a thrashing from the Withdean Stadium. And find out how giant killers Chesterfield got a taste of their own medicine.

Gillingham.4.1.Bromley

Gillingham progressed to the second round of the FA Cup after a tense Kent derby. Two goals from Mark Bentley and two from Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu sealed the Gills' place in the second round draw. Nic McDonnel scored what turned out to be a consolation for Bromley.

Tranmere.4.2.Woking

Tranmere survived a scare against non-league Woking at Prenton Park to seal their place in the second round draw. Doubles from Greenacre and Taylor helped Tranmere on their way. But they were cruising at 3.1 before Woking pulled it back to 3.2 but Tranmere secured the win scoring a fourth seven minutes from time.

Chesterfield.0.1.Basingstoke

Matthew Warners twenty five minute goal sealed the major upset of the day. The spirites have beaten West Ham and Man City in the Carling Cup this season but fell victim of their own giant killing.

Brighton.8.0.Northwhich Victoria

A hat-trick from Jake Robinson, a brace from Cox and goals from Revell, Gatting and Rents sealed a huge cup win against non-eague Northwhich. The rout was Brightons biggest ever win at the Withdean Stadium.

Peterborough.3.0.Rotherham

League Two outfit Perterborough stunned League One Rotherham with an impressive three goal to nothing victory. Goals from McLean, Crow and Butcher were one of the minor cup shocks of the day.

Kettering.3.4.Oldham

Kettering very almost forced a replay out of League One side Oldham. The game was tied a three all going into injury time but Oldham's Hall sealed a late win for the Latics. Goals from Ketterings Mcilwain, Abbey and Solkhon were close to earning a well deserved replay at Boundary Park. Oldhams Gregan, Warne and Trotman secured the win with the other goals.

Rushden & Diamands.3.1.Yeovil

League One high flyers Yeovil fell victim to one of the shocks of the day from conference side Rushden & Diamands. Former Gillingham captain Chris Hope opened the scoring with Rankines double securing the win for conference side. Chris Cohen scored the consolation goal for Yeovil.

Nottingham Forest.5.0.Yeading

Non-League Yeading were defeated thanks to a fine hat trick from Forest's star man Kris Commons. The other goals coming from a brace from Agogo.

Swindon Town.3.1.Carlisle

Carlisle fell at the first hurdle of the FA Cup first round at the County Ground. A brace from Swindons Roberts secured the victory with a own goal from Carlisle's Lumsfon securing the minor shock for the League Two outfit. Gray scored the consolation for Carlisle.

Newport County.1.3.Swansea

Goals from Swansea's Trundle, Britton and Iriekpen secured Swansea's progression to the second round in the all welsh derby. Newports Hillier scored what turned out to be a consolation in a game which was marred by the fourth official having to be taken to hospital having had a coin thrown at him.
