Jarvo still may stay

Gills star man Matt Jarvis may stay at Priestfield and is likely to still be a Gillingham play after the January window claims his agent Mark Curtis. Curtis was criticised by club chairman Paul Scally for turning down a contract offer from Scally as he wouldn't make any money out of a Jarvis stay.

Speaking the the Kent on Sunday, Jarvis' agent said, "Matt is not desperate to move. He is happy playing at Gillingham. He has a good relationship with the manager and loves the fans. But like all players he needs the club he is at to match his ambitions. Gillingham need to demonstrate that to him and if they do there is no reason why he will not stay."

Many clubs have been linked with Gillingham's hot property Jarvis, with bids being rejected by club chairman Paul Scally from Stoke and Plymouth of £250,000 which Scally said to be far from the clubs valuation of Jarvis.

Curtis went on to say, " I'm not aware of him moving during January. Does that mean he is likely to stay and make a decision at the end of the season? At the moment, yes."

After Curtis rejected Gillingham's offer to Jarvis which was said to be the biggest to a player of Jarvis' stature, Scally publicly critisiced Curtis because he wouldn't make any money out of the deal. In reaction to Scally's claim Curtis said, " All I want is what is best for my client."

Jarvis was in inspirational form in Gillingham's one goal to nothing victory over Rotherham at Priestfield on Saturday, and was having his name chanted every time he touched the ball.

Last week speaking to the Saturday Observer, Scally said "We put the biggest offer ever made in the history of this club to Matt Jarvis for a player of his age and standing but his agent has already turned it down.

"But we have not given up hope of keeping him. The problem is that his agent is Mark Curtis who knows he will make no money by his client staying at Gillingham. 'ut the final decision will be the player's and we hope he will stay."

Matty Jarvis made his senior debut against Sunderland three years ago. During his Gillingham career Matty has found the net fifteen times, five of those coming this season.

After impressing with same occasional senior appearences and impressive reserve and youth games, Jarvis was rewarded a senior contract - which he signed at th final home game of the season in May 2004. Matty scored his first ever senior goal in the one nil victory over Wolves during the 04-05 season.

Last season Jarvis won 'Young Player of the Year' award and the 'Goal of the Season' award. Speaking about Jarvis, Gills boss Ronnie Jepson spoke of his intent to hang onto his star man.
