Booth condemns Gills to defeat

Gillingham were defeated for the first time at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday, when Huddersfield beat The Gills by three goals to one. Gary Mulligan latched onto Nicky Southall's cross for Gillingham's consolation.

The game was just three minutes old when Huddersfield took the lead. Woeful defending from Gillingham (as per usual) allowed Danny Schofield to cross for veteren Luke Beckett who beat Larrieu in the Gillingham goal.

The Gills were then further behind five minutes later when yet more poor defending let Chris Brandon cross for Andy Booth who fired The Terriers into a two goal advantage.

At the interval The Gills were two down and didnt look like scoring.

The Gills did finally score when Nicky Southall - on his third Gillingham debut, crossed for Gary Mulligan who headed home for his ninth of the season.

But any hopes of an equaliser faded when the ball evaded everyone from a corner kick but for veteran striker Andy Booth to score his second.

It's a poor performance. We set our standards against Tranmere in our last game, but today we got off to the worst start ever.

"The goals we conceded were not even well worked. If they are well-worked goals you hold your hands up, but even still when you give two goals away at a place like Huddersfield it's always going to be a hard game.

"What I am disappointed with is the inconsistency - you can't start games how we did today.

"We looked nervous and we didn't deserve anything out of this football game.

"I think one or two of the players went into their shells and their third goal just about summed the day up for us."
