Kent Reliance in shirt sponsor bid

Kent Reliance Building Society have revealed their aims to be the next shirt sponsor of Gillingham FC. Todays Kent Messenger revealed that the Building Society have been in "high level talks" with the Gillingham chairman Paul Scally.

Kent Reliance, who maybe moving out of Medway over a row over the two-way system, are in "high level talks" to be Gillingham FC's shirt sponsor for next season.

The building society aim to replace MHS Homes as the shirt sponsor of Gillingham after the MHS Homes group said that they were going to pull out of sponsoring the Kent club, in a three-year deal what was thought to be worth about £400,000.

Gills chairman Paul Scally though is in talks with a number of possible shirt sponsors and claimed that the deal could be another month away before being agreed.

This isn't the first time that the building society have bided for the shirt sponsorship however, back in 2000 they bided to sponsor Gillingham only for SEAFRANCE to come in with a larger offer.

The Kent Reliance Chief Executive Mike Lezenby has secured a number of sponsorship deals when he was the Chief Executive of Nationwide, and now aims to secure a contract with Gillingham.

Lazenby said: " I can confirm that we are in discussions with Gillingham Football Club over shirt sponsorship.

"Even if we do move out of Medway, we will still retain links because we are Kent's only building society."

Lazenby continued, " Shirt sponsorship of The Gills would show we are still committed to the area. We're just not committed with the local council."
