Scally confirms Charlton interest in Jarvis

Gillingham manager Paul Scally has confirmed that Premiership outfit Charlton Athletic are interested in Gillingham midfielder Matt Jarvis.

Gillingham's 20-year-old versatile midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and is likely to play his last game for Gillingham tomorrow against Yeovil.

The Gillingham chairman Paul Scally believes that Jarvis' agent Mark Curtis has already agreed a deal with a Championship club. Speaking to BBC Radio Kent Scally said: "We have had interest from Charlton, which I'm discussing with his agent.

"But that's as far as it's gone. If he was in contract, I think he'd be worth £2m."

The Gills chairman also has high hopes for the midfielder who was a product of the Gillingham youth academy, having been released by Millwall as a young teenager. He concluded: "And if he continues his development, I believe he'll play for England within the next three or four years."

Since January, Plymouth and Nottingham Forest have made moves for Jarvis but were both unsuccessful. He has also been linked with almost every Championship club, and also been linked with moves to big Premiership clubs including Arsenal and Newcastle UTD. The most recent rumour surrounding Jarvis was a move to Leicester for £1million.

Jarvis is expected to start on the bench tomorrow and come on to make his last appearance for Gillingham against Yeovil tomorrow in Gillingham's last game of the season. It will most probably be his 111th and last game for Gillingham.
