Gillingham relegation pleases Armstrong

Former Gillingham defender Craig Armstrong was a happy man as Gillingham were condemned to League Two football next season. The defender left Gillingham after falling out with manager Mark Stimson to rejoin Cheltenham Town, and is pleased that Mark Stimson's men went down.

The 32-year-old fell out with current Gillingham manager Mark Stimson and had a public feud with the former Stevenage boss. Armstrong claimed Stimson’s man management was the worst he had come across in his career, and the Robin’s defender was released shortly before The Gills’ goalless stalemate with The Robins at Priestfield in February, and is delighted at Gillignham’s relegation. Armstrong said: “If you look at who has gone down and who has stayed up I am absolutely delighted."

"It's been a difficult season because I left to go somewhere elseand it didn't work out, so I came back and we have stayed in this league. It's onwards and upwards for Cheltenham now."

Armstrong was signed by former Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson to replace Danny Jackman, but failed to make any real impact at Gillingham after Jepson’s departure. He made a swift return to Whaddon Road in February afterhaving his contract terminated by The Gills.
