It was a tough old game, but we pulled through, although the team had to cope with the pressure of a rather large crowd AND been broadcast across the world on Sky television.
Rhinos Make A Splash In The Mud
Rhinos: (6) 18
Tries: Smith, Sinfield, Bailey
Goals: Sinfield (3)
Hull: (0) 4
Try: Sing
What a great couple of weeks in Super League. We beat the Reds in a gripping clash at The Willows and on Friday night we beat Hull FC in some of the worse conditions on record in the new Super League era at Headingley.
In damp conditions and with the close rivalry between the Rhinos and Hull, it was bound to be a tight game, but we edged by a first half try from Lee Smith although Sky Sports commented on the odd forward pass leading up to the try.
Later on in the 2nd half, Kevin Sinfield made his way over the line with the help from Brent Webb and Ali Lauitiiti and converted to make the score 12-0 untill Hull FC built up momentum after a try from Matt Sing and brought them back into the game.
The team knew they had to secure a win at a crucial part of the season and just after, Ryan Bailey powered over the line with just 12 minutes remaining untill the final hooter at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium. It was also a signal for the Hull fans to make that long journey home.
Leeds (18-man): Webb, Donald, Toopi, Senior, Smith, McGuire, Burrow, Leuluai, Diskin, Peacock, Jones-Buchanan, Ellis, Sinfield, Lauitiiti, Thackray, Bailey, Kirke, Tansey.
Hull (18-man): Lee, Washbrook, Tickle, G. Horne, Wheeldon, Godwin, Whiting, Yeaman, R. Horne, Briscoe, Dowes, Tony, Raynor, McMenemy, Maiava, Sing, Swain, Carvell.
