Rhinos Claim Victory

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats produced a stunning second-half fightback but we survived one of Super Leagues biggest fightbacks to claim that much needed win without our new full back star, Brent Webb out from a minor back injury. With the return of Keith Senior, Jordan Tansey switched from centre to full back. If the Wildcats had won from 24 nill down, it would have become Super Leagues greatest come-back of all time. Just after the half-hour mark we had run in four unanswered tries and Kevin Sinfield converted them all but one. We were 24-0 ahead and in total control at a capacity Belle Vue after a try in the first 5 minutes from Donald on the wing. Further tries from Senior, Tansey and McGuire after yet another great partnership with McGuire and Burrow. But Ben Jeffries’ try on the stroke of half-time started a Wakefield rivival and after the break they played like a side given brand new tactics, which must of been what had happened. On 44 minutes, Scott Donald fumbled a cross field kick and Peter Fox made the score 24-10 as Rooney missed the conversion. Just under 5 minutes later, the Wakefield fans thought that they might just get back into this game as Atkins made his way through the lads defence. Bailey though got a late try after a great McGuire chip. The score was now 28-20 after Burrow failed to kick the conversion. Burrow kicked a goal after a penalty was awarded to us after interferance in the play the ball making the score 30-20. With 3 minutes remaining Atkins recieved a clear forward pass to give Wakefield yet another 4 points. Rooney converted to make the comeback kids just 4 points away from us. From the kick-off we forced a Wakefied dropout which went out of the full as the home side threw everything they had at scoring a final try. Sinfield kicked the penalty which followed as the hooter sounded to seal te victory.
