Chiefs on Gemini FM?
Chiefs
By Charlie
January 7 2008
Charlie from Gemini outlines some thoughts from Saturday's meeting and gives some preliminary ideas for the show. It's got the go-ahead from Gemini and the Club so we now need to identify fans who are keen to be involved. We're also seeking further suggestions for content. It would be interesting to know if any other rugby club has a similar link with a local radio station?
Chiefs on Gemini FM
Saturday, post Moseley saw the first meeting about the proposed Chiefs Radio show on Gemini. Thanks to everyone who turned up - some good ideas and suggestions were put forward. Moorsman thought it might be a good idea to post an article about what was discussed and how we can move things forward, so here goes!
How far along are we with the show?
Well, the main thing is that we have been given the green light by the powers that be at Gemini to go ahead with the show. The Chiefs top brass are also keen on the idea of a dedicated Chiefs show. Its been suggested that the show would run on a Thursday night between 7 and 8pm. It would be broadcast online at geminifm.co.uk and on digital radio. I dont think we are a million miles away from doing a trial show. Some good ideas were thrown around at the meeting on Saturday.
Possible features
Although the show is going to be primarily about the Exeter Chiefs we thought it would be good to also cover other rugby news, youth rugby and highlight the clubs in the Devon leagues as well. Possible features are :-
- Review of the previous weekends game
- Preview the next game with player interviews (recorded from the press conference)
- A look at the rest of ND1/Premiership/Other rugby news
- Youth rugby section
- Team of the week (giving the spotlight to a different Devon club each week)
- Fans v Players Quiz
- A player of the week type feature which would involve a junior Chief putting the questions to one of the first team players (along the lines of what Ant and Dec did with Little Ant and Dec)
- A different guest on the phones each week to answer questions from the fans. This is where we could utilise and promote the unofficial site. We would let everyone know the following weeks guest on the site and then fans could suggest questions to put to said guest. We could then call back the people with the best questions to go to air.
- We could also use the unofficial site during the show for people to leave questions and observations which could be read out on air.
What do we need to do now?
We need to find some people who are willing to help out with this show. It is going to need a small but regular commitment from a few people to get this show off the ground and to keep it running. Obviously myself and Gareth are prepared to do a lot of leg work for the show (producing it, getting the audio etc) but in an ideal world we would get a couple of fans to front the show.
I know of one person who has put their name forward so far but is there anyone else who fancies trying their hand at presenting? It would also be good to get various people on board to help come up with content (write the quiz, get info on youth rugby/team of the week etc).
We also need to find out how many people are actually in favour of us doing this. Its all very well putting this show on, but if no one is going to listen, it will be a pointless exercise.
So let us know what you think of the ideas so far. Let us know if you want to help out and let us know if you would listen to such a show. Once we have a bit more of an idea of who can/will help out etc we can maybe look at putting together a trial run show.
Cheers
Charlie

What does everyone think about the possibility of a weekly show or podcast dedicated to the Chiefs on Gemini?
Just an idea at the moment but we are looking into getting something off the ground for next season...
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Charlie,
That sounds like a good idea, what sort of things would be on there latest news and updates I would think reaction to games that sort of thing. Or perhaps match commentry from the weeks before so that people who have missed a game can catch up.

Hey Adam,
Well at this stage no firm plans, so open to suggestions. As I say its just an idea at the moment so the more input the better but I would think there would be regular features on the show (chiefs quiz, player profiles etc), a different guest each week, reaction to game just gone and the game coming up, callers etc etc that sort of thing.
I reckon we could build a really good show. As I say ideas/thoughts/suggestions at this stage would be cool.

Charlie,
Sounds good if we have a show maybe we could get guests on like players coaches etc. phone ask the boss section things like that I know those of us who are lucky enough to be members have the chance to put our thoughts forward but others don't.

Great idea Charlie, obviously lots to work on but raising the profile for the Chiefs and Exeter in general can only do good for the club and City, look forward to hearing more on the ideas.
Well done.

Great potential news Charlie ,
Thanks for your support if you need any help then just shout as we all are here to futher the Chiefs into the Prem and beyond.
There are plenty of players who im sure would be happy to do an interview or more ?
How about challenge a chief , a player quiz on air ?
We can dream of the EDF Trophy ( Rather than just the shield) one day or by the that time it may be another sponsors name on it lets hope its not the Tango Coke Pepsi Vodafone O2 cup but The Gemini GWR Trophy has a ring to it ?

The Gemini Trophy....nice! Its great to get some comments and feedback from fellow Chiefs fans. Im really up for making this happen as is Gareth one of our news bods at Gemini. Having spoken to Tony Walker I know a few of the players have already said they are up for a Chiefs show. I think we would need a different Chiefs player/coach in the studio/on the phone each week, fans on the phones...love the idea of a Players V Fans Quiz. Ive got a meeting with my boss tomorrow (who seems very up for making this happen) so Ill let you know more then....

Like everyone else, I think this is a great idea. Anything that raises the profile of the Chiefs has to be good.
There are already lots of good ideas mentioned. If the show gets the go ahead and gets a high enough profile you could almost have a show like they do on TalkSport, getting fans to ring in, perhaps even inviting a fan on to the show maybe playing a little devils advocate to get more opinions.
Whatever the format, if we have a show it can only be good.
Good luck tomorrow Charlie.
Tony

Great idea Charlie especially as the other local radio station seems to favour the round ball game or give presidence to other rugby teams over the Chiefs. As for TV coverage this is sometimes non exsitant.I look forward in anticipation that the show will get off the ground.

I have had a brief chat with my boss who thinks its a great idea. Im meeting with Moorsman at some point soon to chat over a few bits, but hopefully with backing from members of this website, we can get a good show off the ground.
Will keep you all posted but its a good start.

Excellent news.
Perhaps the show, if it goes ahead, will raise the profile of this site as well.
That's something that needs to happen. Albion and Pirates have way more postings than us.

Met with Mike Churcher today and he is going to speak with Kieron and Tony R about it...
What has been suggested is that if its a "goer" and the Chiefs have a good trophy run, then maybe we could do a couple of specials ahead of a semi final/twickenham final to try out some ideas/see how it goes
Its all looking very positive

Great idea and a challenger to Kellows Boot Laces. Any ideas on a name for the show and will you sponsor a half time "over the bar" challenge? The Pink Panther at the Saints game was a good laugh.
Interviews with players from the past would be good - there are some great tales to be told from before the professional days.

No thoughts on a name as yet. Any suggestions? Im really going to be looking for some fans to front the show as well (like kellows)...mayb we will have to hold auditions nearer the time!!
As for the half time entertainment, the panther was brilliant. I reckon something similar to the cross bar challenge for half times could work, cos there doesnt tend to be a lot going on most games does there?

Had a brief meeting with Charlie after the Knights game and this is a genuine opportunity for Chiefs Fans to get involved. He's got the go ahead to put a show together along the same lines as the show Gemini already run for Exeter City. What we need to do is identify a few fans who have some time to spare and who would be interested in 'presenting' the show. Gemini will take care of all the technical stuff. Here's a Link to City show to give some idea of how it works.
The next step is to set up a meeting with those of you who are interested and the guys from Gemini. So volunteers please
and I'll arrange the meeting.
I've added a link on the side bar to the Chiefs area on Gemini Gemini Sport

Are we any further along with this? Can we perhaps pencil in a date for the new year for those interested/with ideas.

Name could be something along the lines of Sandy Park Drums.I for one would be keen to be involved with anything that enables fans to chat about this great game of rugby and this fav team of ours!!
As long as its kept good hearted, and thats regarding all aspects of life at SP rather than a vehicle for just complaining. Needs to be balanced and fair giving all viewpoints, pros and cons. Solutions to problems and difficulties rather than just raising them.
Reckon it will be great for all involved with Chiefs in whatever shape and form!!
Great move Charlie

thanks for your thoughts OSR and crackerchief. hope to see you both after the moseley game?
think you hit the nail on the head about the show though. it wont be a vehicle for moaning. rather an hour long weekly show which will review the last game and preview the following weeks match. i also envisage player interviews, competitions, features, music and the chance for fans to call in to discuss the burning issues at Sandy Park.
with everyones input it should be a really good thing for next year. be a great way to raise the profile of this site too.
merry christmas all.

Hi Charlie
Have e-mailed Moorsman to let him know i am up for it
Lets hope there is loads more interest for this exciting project.
Is it worth asking the club to stick something on its offy site about this or do we want to keep it between this site and you until its up and running!!
Just an idea!!

That's great news crackerchief. I know Moorsman has had a really positive response on the front of people helping out with the show.
The club are aware of the planned show. I think for the time being there is probably no need to put anything on the official site...there seems to be enough ideas and interest here.
I will keep in touch with Moorsman about how things are going. I think the next step will be a meeting with all interested parties to discuss a possible show layout and who might do what. From then we can get into the studio to trial some bits out...and then (when everyone is happy) perhaps do a one off show to see how it goes and what people think. We will obviously make sure the offy site have all the details about the show well in advance for publicity purposes.
Its all looking really positive though.

Hey Charlie,
I play for Exeter Chiefs Colts at the moment and also am studying journalism and radio at Exeter College.
Sounds ideal to me!
I would happily be a go between for a lot of the news?
