Big Bob gives his take on the forthcoming derby match. Will the Chief’s winning streak continue or will the Pirates be the proverbial banana skin?

Chiefs v Pirates
Against the Pirates we have played eleven league matches and won seven of them. In recent years we have seen some epic struggles between the two sides – Gary Kingdom’s chip and chase towards the south stand to score, sticks in my brain. I won’t bore you with the stats in detail because they are history – the only thing that isn’t is importance of this match. It doesn’t matter that we have play offs this season – this match counts.
In preparation for writing this review I have just listened to the Pirates v Bedford game. The Pirates edging it 25 -24, with the Bedford kicker missing an “easy” kick just before the end. From the commentary, both sides made mistakes but there again who doesn’t? How the Pirates played against Bedford is irrelevant, it’s how they play against us that counts – and how will they play? The answer is “with passion”. Forget their injury list, whichever Pirate fifteen walk onto the pitch will want to win, not just because we are unbeaten but because we are Exeter.
The passion on the field will be matched with passion off it – Oggy man get ready and tribe prepare to lose your voices. But SILENCE when the kicks are being taken! In recent years some kicks at both here and Camborne have been taken with a bit of noise – not next Saturday at Sandy Park please. I guess that we may hear about the lack of toilets and the high beer prices after the match but I don’t want to hear any negativity about the crowd – which will be a big one (623 tickets available as I write this).
I’m expecting 11 from 11 for the Chiefs – the half term report should be a good one. If the lads can score four tries away at Bristol then they can beat the Pirates at home.
I hope that the weather is good, the rugby is good and that the crowd are in good voice. Matches like this are why I follow rugby rather than football – bring it on!
