This weekend sees last seasons Premiership and Championship Champions come face to face at Welford Road.

This weekend sees last seasons Premiership and Championship Champions come face to face at Welford Road.
A quick trawl of the stats quickly shows the gulf thare has been between the two sides coming into this season but things have changed. The Chiefs have taken their place in the Premiership, which means the two sides meet in the same division for the first time. There are likely to be a lot of firsts for Exeter Chiefs this season with two notable firsts coming last weekend with thier first Prem match and first Prem win, versus Gloucester 22-10 and that was quickly followed by the Chiefs first 'A' league match and win, versus Bath 13-6 on Monday.
This of course leaves the door open for a few more firsts, first Prem match against Leicester Tigers and first away Prem match, which in turn could lead to a first Prem loss or first Prem draw.
A first Prem loss is likely to be suggested by many observers but who knows? Before last weeks match many Chiefs supporters didn't know what to expect. We'd seen the squad figure in three pre-season games with close defeats to Cardiff Blues and Llanelli Scarlets and a win over the Cornish Pirates. However it was impossible to tell what these matches meant with reference to the Premiership challenge ahead.

Then Saturday came and the victory over Glaws where I went from thinking (pre-match) that a bonus point loss would be a result to (post-match) berating myself for my lack of belief! The squad stepped up to the mark and showed that Exeter Chiefs are not only a Prem side (following promotion) but played like a Premiership side who belong in this league.
So, what of this fixture? I really don't know about the likely result but I do know the Chiefs will not be beaten easily. The players under the guidance of Rob&Co will be well prepared and motivated to play to their potential. The good news for Chiefs supporters is that Exeter Chiefs are nowhere near the finished article and as Rob Baxter has made it clear from day one, we will get stronger and more competitive throughout this season. There will be no easy games and this is to be relished because it is a major motivator for everyone associated with the Chiefs as pitting yourself against the best there is gives the opportunity to become the best you can be.
Unfortunately I am unable to travel to the match but The Away Tribe will be venturing into the Tigers Den with their heads held high and an overwhelming desire to enjoy the occassion.
Bring it on!!!!

Prepare for a backlash. However, they will be a little more nervous now and under a bit of pressure. You need to shut their fans up (not easy as there are so many of them!!!!) Don't give them any room and keep them on the backfoot. Most importantly, they play to the 81st minute, we nearly got bit on the backside last week by taking our foot off the gas. Goodluck and enjoy the experience, a great ground and amixing with the big boys. This is what you've been working towards......

don't stop playing better than them
keep their fans quiet (anyone got 13,000 tiger muzzles?)
and all will be well. Its a simple game really isnt it?
I will admit to a little uncertainty on this gaem, it could be a car crash. but all experiences are for learning so win lose or draw the guys will be a lot better for it, players and coaching.

Good review and as others have said, your boys will be highly motivated and upbeat while ours are almost in a no-win situation. And we don't seem to do "backlashes" after poor performances, we just "learn from our mistakes and get on with it" is the usual message from our coaches!

that's what you think - we're deploying plan "C":
- diversion notices on all but one road into welford,
- dummy announcements about the flu epidemic rampaging through the tigers' squad meaning the match is cancelled,
- towels on tigers' season ticket holders seats
we are from the championship you know, see richard hills comments on how devious we are!
(apologies by the way - really didn't realise how big the palce is and the size of the fan base. looking forward to it)

We know it is going to be mighty tough for us but all the pundits had us down not to win a game. We just want the boys to know that no matter what we are behind them all the way and I sure that as long as they can hear the Tomahawk Chop we know they will all go out and give it their all which is all we can ask to show that we do have the right to be in the Prem, also that we can play rugby down in the deep SW.So best of luck to Rob and the boys.

Can't wait for kick off. Deliberately chose seats in the middle of the Catapillar stand to enjoy the banter. Everybody and his brother says we can't win and they are probably right but what the hell I'm going to enjoy it because the alternative was staying in the Championship instead of Bristol in which case we would have been able to look forward to playing, and no disrespect to them, Doncaster this weekend. Mind you if Tigers give away as many penalties away on Saturday as they did against Saints anything can happen. Got to go now to try and catch some flying pigs.

So, we travel to Welford Road tomorrow with spirits high but we're not expecting to get anything from the game. So let's just give this our best shot against the champions and see where we end up?! We've nothing to lose. But whatever happens during the course of the game, and whatever the final scoreline I intend to have no voice left by the end of the game. Let's get behind the lads and see where fate takes us!
And then the optimist in me dares to dream...
