Last season was Exeter Chiefs first venture in this competition and the general consensus of posters on 'unoffy' sites didn't suggest that many took it seriously. Well I think the Chiefs used it to good advantage, blooding Academy players and giving game time to those trying to break into the squad.
There's every indication that this will be the case this season given the team that played Ospreys last Saturday. A good mix of players put on a very entertaining evening and looked to have become a unit by full time.
Chiefs visit Sarries this weekend and it's going to be interesting to see how Rob Baxter approaches this. He has Gonzo Camacho available now he is back from the World Cup along with several players returning from injury who he may give game time.
I can see another win but will it yield 5 points?

Good question Moorsman. The positives i see are the improvements made by the youngsters in particular Dave Ewers and giving the giving other members of the first team more game time and a chance to show what they can do. Most stepped up to the mark & have given the coaches more to think about. Also the revenue from potentially another game would add to the clubs finances considerably and make up for the down turn in the gate so far this season although the Ospreys game did draw an better than expected crowd. I wonder if chiefs will look into the reasons behind this?? Would a later kick off allow more players from local clubs chance to watch the Chiefs?? I am not a fan of late kick offs but maybe once a year this could be planned in, i know this game was due to welsh tv why we kicked off late.
I don`t think teams take it that seriously,but in a year where the `A` team games have been cut down on it does give good game time to all squad members as well as youngsters.
It also gives the coaches a chance to try different things in a competative arena.
The point made on extra revenue is sound as is the point made about the late ko.
Yep - 6,365 was a very healthy crowd. No idea why, but I reckon if some of them were walk-up casuals they will be back. Both sides contributed to a proper game of rugby. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Entertianing Game and Good to see the Sqaud getting a runout and playing well.As for the Crowd not sure if it is just me but seemed fuller against sarries and wasps particulary in the ETN for both those games we were packed in like sardines but had room to move about last week.
The reason I don't take the tournament that seriously personally is because I think the format is a farce. Still if the Ospreys game is anything to go by we could wind up getting ourselves a lot of attention here.
I confess that I've always been a little cynical about the Low Value Cup, but as you say, Moorsman, I think Rob & Co have made good use of it. I think it's particularly important for 2 categories of player in particular: (i) those that are just outside the normal XXIII, say the Chads or the Bentos's of this world, who need to be kept match fit in case of injury to the usual starters; & (ii) our youngsters that are out on loan in the Championship on ND1, to give them the sense that altho they may be out there week-on-week playing for another club, at heart they are still Chiefs
