Chiefs log their first away win of the season and first ever win at the Madstad
London Irish v Exeter Chiefs
Review
After having to hastily make alternative travel arrangements, we drove up to Reading on Saturday afternoon, we settled in at my cousins home and after a very good Chinese takeaway headed into town to O'Niells bar to meet up with my some of my cousins friends and fellow Irish supporters. And a very enjoyable banter filled evening was had.
Sunday morning we headed into town for the few hours shopping I had promised Mrs 50p, I think I coped really well with this seeing I was still feeling the effects of the previous night! After a Guinness and pasty, we headed out to the MadStad on one of the supporters buses.
Well after the first 20 mins we could have been forgiven for thinking we were on our way to a big win, but as has happened before ( L Welsh ), we were pegged back and after some frustrating bouts of "ping pong", good defence from us and pens exchanged we managed to hang on for a 4 point win. I would like to see Jack's "touch down" again as, initially, like the ref, I thought he had scored. It didn't effect what was a very solid and confident debut for Master Nowell and I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more of him in the 1st team squad.
So we retired to the bar under the North stand where a very good band played some great singalong songs and after I had got my gloating out of the way we went to The Three Guineas pub next to the train station. This is a real rugby pub used by the L Irish supporters and another session on the black stuff started, the evening was finished off with a very good Indian buffet meal at River Spice.
If anyone has not been up to L Irish you really must try and do it, great atmosphere, friendly supporters, great entertainment, great pubs and if you can make a weekend of it even better.
