Reasons to be cheerful
With all this Christmas cheerfulness going on it set me thinking about the Chiefs (not that it takes much to get me thinking about Chiefs!). Even though things haven't exactly gone as smoothly as we'd hoped following last years runner up spot in the Prem and European Quater Final there's still plenty to cheer a Chiefs fan.
The Prem

We've reached the half-way stage of the Prem season and are sitting nicely in the top four. Chiefs are 4 points clear of Tigers in fifth and 11 ahead of Saints who occupy 7th spot. Although Chiefs have lost the same number of games as Tigers and won one fewer our bonus point tally more than makes up for this with just 2 games not resulting in a LBP or TBP.
| P | W | D | L | F | A | BP | Points | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sarries | 11 | 9 | 0 | 2 | 283 | 122 | 6 | 42 |
| 2 | Wasps | 11 | 9 | 0 | 2 | 359 | 231 | 6 | 42 |
| 3 | Bath | 11 | 8 | 0 | 3 | 261 | 175 | 4 | 36 |
| 4 | Chiefs | 11 | 6 | 1 | 4 | 307 | 215 | 9 | 35 |
| 5 | Tigers | 11 | 7 | 0 | 4 | 257 | 227 | 3 | 31 |
| 6 | Quins | 11 | 6 | 0 | 5 | 234 | 261 | 3 | 27 |
| 7 | Saints | 11 | 5 | 0 | 6 | 194 | 197 | 4 | 24 |
| 8 | Glaws | 11 | 3 | 2 | 6 | 252 | 245 | 8 | 24 |
| 9 | Falcons | 11 | 5 | 0 | 6 | 174 | 259 | 3 | 23 |
| 10 | Sharks | 11 | 3 | 1 | 7 | 196 | 269 | 4 | 18 |
| 11 | Warriors | 11 | 1 | 2 | 8 | 191 | 337 | 2 | 10 |
| 12 | Bristol | 11 | 1 | 0 | 10 | 166 | 336 | 4 | 8 |
In his post match interview following the Tigers game Rob Baxter was understandably pleased that Chiefs have really got their act together and put themselves in a position to be able to attack the rest of this season and gain a play-off place.
Europe

Whilst it wouldn't appear to be an area to be cheerfull there's been a lot of positives for Chiefs post the Clermont defeat. Importantly Chiefs have notched their first Champions Cup win in France with the Bordeaux win. Not only was this a first for Chiefs they became the first English Club to win at their stadium.
Europe has also seen the emergence of Jack Maunder in the senior squad and he looks a fine prospect.

The Club

Both on field and off field with the Sandy Park conferencing business things are going from strength to strength with the Club posting another healthy profit (c1.2M pre-tax).
Our Academy structure is looking even stronger with Exeter College winning the AASE League for the first time having pipped Harptbury to top spot in the Souther League.
Just a few things for Chief

And if you agree or not the club has seen sense with the ridiculous 100% smoking ban bringing Sandy Park into line with most major sports stadiums.
Thank you.

Totally agree Chunk Snr. I am a non smoker by the way......But the total ban was utterly ridiculous.
Common sense prevailed in the end.
