From 4th tier Rugby to The Premiership and European Glory
17th October 2020........a date no one connected with Exeter Rugby Club will ever forget.
The day Rob Baxter saw his boys achieve what he and Tony Rowe had talked of achieving some years before.
A game played in an empty stadium in Bristol, the city where 10 years earlier promotion to the Premiership was won. The journey back has been an amazing one that people will talk about for years to come. European success having eluded the club it somehow felt fitting that it should happen there.
It was a cracking game of rugby in truth, not that I felt that way in the last 15 minutes or so. Racing had fought there way back to within striking distance and in truth we weren't playing as well as we can but that Chiefs never say die attitude kicked in, the boys digging deep and finally gaining a penalty which young Joe Simmonds calmly slotted home (reminiscent of his mentor) but even then there was the farcical debate between Mr Owens and the TMO about the clock!! Talk about squeaky bum time! Oh how we all celebrated when Sir blew that whistle.....it sounded deafening where I was at the HITW......delirium, pride, excitement.......relief!! Emotional to say the least. The joy was obvious to see as the boys were crowned Champions Of Europe and the smile on Mr Baxter's face was fantastic to see.
Heartfelt congratulations to all the players and officials.........and we fans know just what it means.

It was the most exciting, tense and dramatic match I have watched since 2003. Having watched it again so many players had individual key moments and there were so many momentum swings. I do not think it accurate to say we did not play well; the pressure was huge from a very good Racing team as well as the occasion.
We took enough of our chances choosing the right options to always go for the maximum points [tries rather than penalties], defended brilliantly, won many key battles, kicked all our conversions and the penalty, had the right tactics and a bit of luck which all sides need. I think without doubt it was right up there with the best performances of the season. Just fantastic

Yep I have a full recording of the match. Every time I watch the ending it will always make me smile
