Hooray, a proper second row.
Is Rigg injured or done something wrong?
Nothing against Hammersley, but he's not a 12. He's a good 23 , capable of giving it all for 20 odd mins in the second half.
We've been porous in midfield so far ( Bath and Saints). I'm sure Rigg would seal it up.

Well, in hope of continuing last week's second half performance:

In Rob we trust.
By the way - cream on first. There's nothing to debate.

I'm always wary of teams, in any sport, who have "got rid of" their managers/head coaches during the season after a poor run of results as they frequently win their next game. However Chiefs 32 - 17 Red Bulls.

I seem to remember them bullying us in the front row last season. Assuming they’ll have the wind behind them in the first half, I suspect we’ll concede our customary excess of penalties and get marched back down the field a few times, so I’m not expecting us to be in the lead at half-time. Nevertheless, I’m going for a second half come back: Chiefs 31, Newcastle 24

Dan John to 15 and Hammersley still centre. Not happy we aren'tgiving an actual centre a run. Good to see the pace in the back row. Like Greg at 7.

A banana skin of a game, one we should and must win imo. From the offy it looks like being a low crowd unfortunately.
Team largely as expected but Hammersley at 12 again, when Rigg and Wimbush fit is quite astonishing, defensively he is so vulnerable as was so evident last week.
Weather a bit iffy so will go for chiefs 27 Newcastle 20.

Rigg sustained a foot injury at the end of last season and they said 3-4 months rehab. Is Wimbush also injured?

I wonder if Rigg and Wimbush are match fit when, as well as Ben H starting, we also have Nick Lilley on the bench.

Anyway, that aside, like most here I'm hoping for (moreso than predicting, really) a home win ..... Chiefs 26 RB 13

I would agree, pretty much the only game of the season we must win. I think we will though, and win well. Not the strongest of squads up there yet, and they are missing some of their better players. Chiefs 35 NRB 12.

Having looked at the match day ticket prices today I think it's time to get used to small crowds!! I know we need the money but the cost of attending games is out of reach for a lot of people now. In the season after our first title we sat in the grandstand with our son, £50 a ticket, it's now £88! Chuck in a pie and a pint and that's a ton for an afternoon! That's just not in any way value for money! The east terrace wings are now £50. I just can't see us Devon folk having that amount of spare cash! We're not Quin's or Bath!!

Rigg was travelling reserve last week. He played the full 80 in that game at Coventry I believe too.
Not sure about the situation regarding Wimbush.
As for getting players match fit, that will be a challenge as there's no second XV rugby.

Hoping we've got enough to see off Newcastle, though I think it'll be close and the weather may play its part. Chiefs 21 Falcons 17

Does anyone know where Tommy Wyatt is?

I'm still confused by Hammersley at 12, but I hope he proves me wrong and plays a blinder.

Wyatt won't be available for at least the rest of this year, he did his other knee in the last game of the season. Info in this BBC News Article

Apologies to ExTeddChief - due to trying to update the spreadsheet while travelling home from the match I entered the wrong score. It turns out the congratulations should go to Lowerwatha who achieved the maximum score (Sm152)(Sm128)

If Chiefs are going to spoil things by winning matches this season, I’m going to have to work extra hard to maintain my normal position at the bottom of this league table.

First time I have ever cracked it, I knew I had predicted Newcastle to score 15 points so was willing them to miss the conversion.

Keithbar had one last season (oddly enough, also for a match v Newcastle). I also had one about 3 seasons ago. I can't remember who it was against but Chiefs were ahead with about 8 minutes to go and I was (almost) praying no-one scored any more points!

Don't worry about it, was hardly expecting to be top of the table anyway.
