Not really a fan of Terry when it comes to captaining the England team, personally i think Ferdinand has the right attitude to lead the team.

I'd sooner Ferdinand than Terry, but I'm still not sure he's the right man, do you think his past drugs ban would work against him?

It probably would and i wouldnt blame them, but when it comes to what he gives on the pitch i think he is great.

That's true - solid defender. Would be wrong to hold his past against him, but that's the society we live in isn't it. I suppose the arguement about role models for the young is a valid one too.

Yeah definately, cant deny he was stupid and kids these days look up to footballers etc so much it would be wrong to ignore the fact that he did it.

You cant deny Rio has the passion, the way he celebrates england goals makes me laugh.

In a vote i would probably go for Steve G.

Ferdinand, trouble mit that drugs thingy,Woman trouble as well.

Terry, Drinking scandal etc,

Indeed they do. But Ferdinand served a lengthy ban for his troubles. His last game before the ban started was at Molineux in 2004 and he got some terrible stick. Fans don't forget easily.

True, as Tony said they all come with baggage.

Here we are discussing Ebanks-Blake as a possible England forward and its not been all that long since his own court appearance.

Of course nobody can question how proud he is to wear the shirt, you can see it, but do you not think there are players who could lead the team better?

Agree totally that Terry is proud to wear the shirt - you can't question his commitment to club or country. Just wish he could control that temper of his at times! It doesn't offend me - I'm all for showing your passion, but the refs don't seem to like it!
Cheers for popping over - I've seen the thread between you and my other half on the Chelsea board, and I for one would never boo any England player for where they play their club football.
I will admit to having a problem with Ashley Cole - but this is because he is really incosistent for England (in my opinion) I just wish he was half the player for England he is for Chelsea.

i agree- that can be said about a few of them!

Re: Poll: Is Terry the right man to Captain England?

Indeed it can.

I think Cole leaves us exposed at the back - he's so far forward and never seems to get back in time. Terry does a good job covering him, but sometimes that has cost us. Yet for Chelsea he's completely different.

Makes you wonder what the manager is asking him to do - yet he's been the same under Capello, McClaren etc. Surely they can't all be asking him to do the same thing? That gap at the back is so blatant.

No I don't actually. Whilst he has passion and pride I don't see him as a good leader for England, he is also agressive and that's not what we need. It's no good being a hero and sticking up for your beliefs when you know it could cost the entire team with a sending off.

I personally believe Gerrard would be a better leader - he has that ability to step up a gear and encourage the whole team - just like Beckham has. I don't see the same in Terry, not for England. But like I said, just my opinion.

personally no i dont, but this is an opinion poll so there are going to be differences, there is no right or wrong. As i said earlier i think Ferdinand on the pitch has an excellent attitude and is full of energy, he also gives his best for Man U aswell as England which cant be said for a lot of players.

If he didn´t play for Chelsea there wouldn´t be any question on the matter - let alone this pole.

It has nothing to do with Chelsea, there has been speculation about this subject for a while on and off so it seemed a good question to have for the first poll.thats all

Absolutely not the case at all. This is an England board to discuss England matters - thus the question of where Terry plays is utterly irrelevant.
What if Terry is injured? Are we not to have another captain at the risk of offending Chelsea fans?
I would ask this question whether Terry played for Chelsea, Wolves, or Oxford Utd!

We value different opinions, which is why we asked this question.

Agree. All we have done is ask if Terry is the right man for the job, if we disliked Chelsea we wouldn't have mentioned Lampard.

Ferdinand has a better attitude on the pitch think again didn't he once have a strop walked of the pitch and kicked a women steward in the leg and apparently punch a few holes in the dressing room what a good roll model.

Yeah sure!

Even before he got the position all and sundry wanted first Gerrard and then later when Capello was in charge Ferdinand (the Evening Standard even pre-empted the story on both occasions and got it wrong both times).

Ever since he´s been captain this has been constantly debated and it won´t rest until he´s NOT England captain. You can bet your life if it had of been Ferdinand or Gerrard there would be nowhere near the amount of debate on the subject.

I agree - but we had to put something as the poll lol.

Nah, in all seriousness, I see your gripe I really do. I just personally would rather Gerrard had the capatains arm band - I prefer his mentality. And I would still say that if he played for Chelsea!
