Pearce to be groomed as next England boss

England's Under 21 boss Stuart Pearce will be groomed to take over from Fabio Capello as the next England gaffer according to sources in the England camp today. Pearce has impressed as chief of the U21 side after leading them to the semi finals of the competition for a second time.

Pearce is flattered by the chat over him becoming the next England boss, but admits he still has a lot to learn before he is any where near ready to step into Capello's shoes.

Pearce believes that his managerial career, which at present spans just four years, is far too short a time for him to even be linked with the England job.  Although he admits it's a position he would be interested in with a few more years experience under his belt.

Capello still has another three years to run on his contract as England gaffer, and Pearce knows only too well that the nature of football could see him drop off the radar to be England boss if the U21s fail to progress any further - although this is something that will concern him little, having already been written off as a decent manager two years ago whilst at Manchester City.

Pearce told Sky Sports "When I look at Fabio every day, and watch him work every day, I realise how inept I am as a manager."

and why not ?
loved him when playing for england allways gave 110% and took great pride in wearing the shirt.
a few more years in the set up as u21 boss and understudy to cappo then i think he will be ready.
you always know what your guna get with pearce,a fully committed man that will do all he can for his country,

if only most of the team playing today had the same pride in playing for thier country and showed it.

Quite agree Trev - Pearce already has the passion, and like you say, a few more years observing the work of Capello and he'll soon be up to speed. Would be nice to have an English manager too!

Fair point, and one I think many people will agree with.

That being said then - and I agree with every word - How do you rate Capello?

i rate cappo very highy, quality manger and shows it by not sitting on his rear unlike sven or macca,
he likes to get his points over durring a game as well as the work he puts in when no game.
comes across well when talking after match and has more than plan A or B.
3 years left of his contract which is 1 WC and euro,if pearce is behind him he will learn loads and be ready to step into his shoes.
cappo is without doubt 1 of the best managers in the world at this moment in time and we are lucky to have him as our team boss.

I would like to see him stick with the under 21's for now but before he gets the Senior England Job i would like to see him in a club job to show how he handles "Big name" Players...

Youth players are one thing but Senior players are a whole different ball game... Youth players want to play and have that passion as generally they aren't corrupted by the money at that stage... The senior players are and become prima donners and harder to deal with... I'd like to see how he would handle them then contact him about the England Job...

Throw enough sh-it at the wall and some of it will stick,
but make no mistake, Your wall's still covered in sh-it

Fair point mate - hadn't thought of it like that really, but it makes sense.

Says it all really, from the horses mouth.
Hopefully he will inprove over time. Let's see if he can do well with a top six premier club, before any talk of him being a future candidate.
Pride and passion can be great assets to have, but they dont necessarily win games.

I can't believe we're already talking about Fab's successor, he's only just completed a year in the job!!! I think Pearcey would be an okay manager for England but nothing spectaculor, not yet anyway.

A big no for me. Maybe in time he will improve but to me the guy has not got a plan B when things are going wrong.
