Court injunction set to break silence over Terry

England Captain John Terry could find himself at the centre of a media scandal, after the High Court ordered the removal of an injunction taken out by Terry to keep stories of his alleged affair out of the press. Terry, who married his childhood sweetheart in 2007 and is now the father of twins, looks set to become Captain for England's World Cup campaign this summer.

But England manager Fabio Capello is unlikely to be impressed if Terry becomes the centre of a media storm in the build up to the World Cup.

Terry had taken out a court injunction last week to prevent the media from discussing the details and showing images of an alleged affair between him and an unnamed woman.

However, the judge at the High Court hearing this afternoon ruled that as the information was already in wide circulation amongst professionals involved with the sport an injunction preventing the release of details to the public was no longer appropriate.

He said "Freedom to live as one chooses is one of the most valuable freedoms, but so is the freedom to criticise".*

The original injuntion had been obtained by Terry's lawyers after he had learned that The News of the World planned to write about him last week.

Today's decision has been seen as a victory for the media, with The News of the World legam manager Tom Crone commenting that "Gagging orders like the one sought by John Terry have been granted to numerous other Premier League footballers and assorted celebrities." and he saw today's decision as "a long overdue breath of fresh air and common sense".*

I wonder if this will lead to him being stripped of the captaincy?

Terry, Ferdinand, and Gerrard all involved allegedly in something or other. Should we turn a blind eye and say eh they are just Human ? And yes it is ok to remain Captain, or should it now go to some one that has a clean record ?

If he wasn't a footballer, i'm sure Jeremy Kyle could have made a full show out of this.

I agree - I know they are all tarnished in some way or another, but to get your private life splashed all over the papers this close to the World cup is not good enough
