David Beckhams World Cup hopes are over after suffering a torn achilles tendon on Sunday night whilst playing for AC Milan. Beckham was operated on in Finland yesterday and his surgeon has said there is "no chance" of him playing in the World Cup.
Whilst having surgery it was confirmed that the tendon was completely torn, and although the operation went smoothly there will not be enough time for him to be fit to travel to South Africa. The surgeon has said that it will be four months before he is running again and another month or to before he will be kicking and jumping. Beckham is said to be devestated, a family friend has stated "this is probably the lowest point he has encountered in his professional career. words cannot express how devestated David is"
England boss Fabio Capello stated: David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow" but added that he hopes he will be fit enough for the Euro qualifications.
