England v Ireland Player Ratings
By Three Lions
November 13 2020
England 3 – 0 Republic of Ireland
Goalkeepers:
Pope/Henderson 6
Neither had much to do but did what was required. Both need a real test to begin to put pressure on the current number one Pickford.
Back Three:
Keane 5
Maguire 7
Mings 7
Ireland posed little threat so defensively they were troubled very little. Maguire looked more like his old self and the goal will also hopefully give him some confidence.
Mings looked good joining in going forward at times as well as solid defensively. Keane had moments where he was absolutely terrible on the ball and got away with some awful passes. I’m hoping he doesn’t figure in the Nations League matches.
Wingbacks:
James 7
Saka 7
Both looked good going forward and both seemed to grow in confidence as the game went on. Saka will rue not going with his right foot with the goal gaping.
Midfield:
Winks 7
Mount 7
The midfield combination I would prefer as they can link up with the forward players and not leave them isolated. Go backwards and sideways when they need to but their first instinct is to go forward unlike Henderson and Rice.
Forwards:
Sancho 7
Grealish 8
Calvert-Lewin 7
Sancho started poorly but grew in to the game after his goal. Calvert-Lewin looks able back-up for Kane and struck his penalty beautifully. Grealish for me was the star man. Always wanting the ball and looking to create and willing to run at defenders. Southgate must find a spot for him in his first choice eleven.
