Just in case there was any danger of Gloucester players or fans getting themselves all excited over a measly opening-day win over Bath, a good old-fashioned stuffing at London Irish should put us all right. Not that there was anything good about a 40-10 scoreline, with half the home team’s points coming from the boot of Ryan Lamb.
Remember him? He's the one who neeed a move from Glaws to futher his career.
It worked.
It as always on that the former Kingsholm golden boy (right, having as tactical discussion with Glaws players) would bite his old club in its collective bum, and he did just that as Irish showed Glaws what is required to make any headway in the Guinness Premiership.Irish scored three tries and a penalty try, with four conversions and four penalties from the fly-half deemed surplus to requirements by Glaws. Their reply was a Charlie Sharples try when the game was already lost and a conversion and a penalty from Nicky Robinson, totally overshadowed by Ryan a week after he took top billing in the Bath victory.
Glaws didn’t help their cause with three players sin-binned by a ref with the newsworthy name of Dean Richards, one of them skipper Gareth Delve late in the game.
Coach Bryan Redpath told the BBC: "We were down to 14 men for the majority of the second half and you're not going to compete like that.
"One of our guys was hit off the ball and Gareth (Delve) had a bit of anger and frustration in him.
"It doesn't concern me if my captain is doing that - he's a good, honest man and I have no issues with him."
Hopefully, though, Redpath IS concerned over the way the Irish pack dominated Glaws, giving the home back the run of the pitch.
Beating Bath is one thing – beating a good time like last season’s play-off finalists is another. On this evidence, Glaws have a long way to go.

I feared the worst but even my worst fears were not that bad! I fully expected Lamby to have a good day but more worrying is it seems Glaws still cant travel and yet again the pack was truly mullered.

I am NOT gloating here, but I do think that one way or another you guys have a bit of a problem with Nicky Robinson.
His kicking out of hand was dreadfull, BUT the worst thing was he NEVER chased one of his own kicks. He just put your forwards offside and often even retreated to fullback, fully expecting the kick to be returned.
Obviously I have no knowledge of wether this may have been a game plan thing or wether it is just what he always does, but against Irish it ain't gonna work because as soon as our backs see all the front most defenders offside they run at them.

You would have to ask Redpath if aimlessly kicking away possession was the "game plan" but it does have a very unfortunate deja vu type feel to it. I think Glaws had half given this game up before kick off with the team selection and although Irish are undoubtedly a very good side who will be in the mix come the pay offs, it is never good to get stuffed by 30 as losing is just as habit forming as winning. All Sunday has done it put a little extra pressure on Saturday's game at Kingsholm against the Saints who I expect will fancy their chances.

Watching the game, Irish definitely had a game plan to kick in behind Sharples, and it worked with our first try, after about 4 attempts. But that is a proper kicking plan to attack a "perceived weakness", and our outside backs chased down every single kick.
Robinson just kicked the ball and then retreated - very odd!
