Please don't let the season be like this

Gloucester are in grave danger of getting into a nasty losing habit after going down 27-14 to Northampton at Kingsholm, a disappointing way to follow up the previous weekend’s 40-point hammering at London Irish. Two bad defeats in the first three games of a new season may not qualify as a full-blown crisis just yet – but it’s hardly the sort of start Glaws and their fans were dreaming about.

Northampton were full value for their win, with Shane Geraghty running the game at fly-half and Glaws showed yet again that they have a major flaw in their make-up this season in a lack of discipline.
With Gareth Delve the second Glaws player to be cited this season, they did not look as if they have learned the lessons they should have learned, and Saints made them pay the full penalty for that.
Akapusi Qera scored an unconverted try with Nicky Robinson kicking three penalties, but Geraghty converted one of Northampton’s two tries, scored by Soane Tonga'uiha and Jon Clarke, and also kicked three penalities, while Bruce Reihana also slotted in two three-pointers.
Gloucester deserved exactly what they got, but they weren’t helped by the fact that Northampton got away lightly with some of their play and the home team had to forsake kickable penalties so they could go for tries in the last quarter.
Losing James Simpson-Daniel through illness before the kick-off was a blow, but not an excuse and most of what good play they produced was wasted by Glaws.
All in all, it was a truly frustrating afternoon that brought back memories of that awful end to last season.
Please don’t let the whole season go that way.
