Last-ditch kick sends Glaws to their latest defeat

Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath blamed individual errors for Gloucester’s single-point LV Cup defeat at the hands of Cardiff Blues at Kingsholm, a last-minute penalty giving the Welsh side yet another victory over Glaws. And after a full house watched Glaws battle against Australia in midweek, just over 6,000 turned up to watch this time.

Tries from Gareth Delve and Adam Eustance had given Glaws a 16-13 edge at half-time, and they were in front 25-23 as the final whistle neared thanks to Carlos Spencer’s kicking, but Ceri Sweeney took his tally for the game to 16 points with his late penalty to win the game.
Redpath told the BBC: "One of the things we talk about is if we create problems, we create points. When we go outside of that and go on our own agenda we cut our own throats and it has been happening too long.
"There is no excuse culture, you can't hide from it, it is as clear as night and day. We made two set-piece defensive errors.
"We missed Rush for his try and for the second try off the base of the scrum we were just chasing across the field and the guy steps inside and scores, two individual errors and it cost us 14 points."
It isn’t the first time that Redpath has made it clear players are not following game plans, and certainly many fans would agree that it appears they are disorganised and lacking direction on the pitch.
But the buck stops with the coach, and it’s surely up to Redpath and his staff to get the players to follow orders and follow game plans.
Yes, errors were made for Cardiff’s tries, but a pedant could claim that EVERY score can be traced back to an error – individual or collective, including the two Glaws scored.
If nobody made mistakes, every game would finish up pointless … a bit like Gloucester in too many games this season.
The search for consistency and a team that will do as it is told contiunues at Wasps in the LV Cup next weekend … cross everything.
