Redpath must be sick of saying the same thing about Glaws

Sharples - late try

It’s becoming a bit of a post-match mantra, but Bryan “we made it too easy for them” Redpath was far from happy with his team’s generosity as they surrendered 42-26 at Wasps in the quarter-final of the Amlin Cup. The result means that Gloucester know what they need to do in their final three Premiership games of the season if they are to qualify for next season’s Heineken Cup.

Win them all.
Glaws were always second best to a rampant Wasps side who have hit form at the perfect time as the season enters the last lap.
Tom Varndell and Aussie-bound Danny Cipriani did the damage, the former with three tries and the latter with 19 kicked points, but it was a team effort that put Glaws to the sword.
Adam Eustace and Charlie Sharples scored for Glaws, Nicky Robinson converting them both and kicking four penalties for a haul of 16 points.
Redpath had demanded a full 80-minute performance from his team, but he got nothing of the sort as Glaws just didn’t hit their stride at all.
“We knew we had to be rock solid in defence, and we weren’t,” he said.
“Collectively, we have to be rock solid, and we are not. We are conceding too many points.
“We’ve got one of the best records in attack in the Premiership, we have scored the most tries in the Premiership. But we are leaking too many, and you have to be more competitive defensively.
“If we don’t defend, we are never going to win a game.”
So they clearly need to learn how to defend if they are to make the top six, a target that needs them to win their three remaining games – at Northampton, home to London Irish and away to a Worcester side fighting for GP survival.

Not an easy task – in fact, on the form shown at Wasps, it’s an impossible one.

It looks as if this season is going to have to be put down to experience..

A major question needs to be: what is Azam doing defending the 10/12 channel? Any self respecting 3/4 is going to run rings around him. I am not singling Ollie out because there were plenty of others who were poor defensively but there is no way a hooker should be at the heart of a drift defence.

Peter Eustace???
I wasn't even drunk.
Grovelling apologies to one and all. No excuse, other than the fact that anybody who, like me, can remember Peter Eustace is clocking on a bit and needs to have a lie down occasionally.
