Glaws waste chance of LV= win in Wales

Big Les - another try
By Cherry Picker
November 5 2010

They knew it’s never easy in Wales, and that’s how it turned out for Gloucester as they were turned over 18-12 by Newport-Gwent Dragons in their first LV=Cup match. With a much-changed team littered with inexperience, Glaws were always on contention, but were beaten by a late home try and their own inability to make pressure count.

The cherry and whites battered away at the home line looking for a late score of their own, but couldn’t quiet make it and the Dragons held on for their win.
Glaws had scored a penalty try and Lesley Vainikolo crossed for the second game running, but the Dragons had two tries of their own and Matthew Jones’s kicking was better than that of Freddie Buns, who was only able to convert the penalty try.
The Glaws pack dominated the game, but as a team they were never able to fully cash in on their up-front power. The possession was there, but the finish wasn’t.
Coach Bryan Redpath told the BBC: "Our basic execution wasn't good enough. Every time we tried to create something we were either too flat or we made a handling error and knocked on, which created a very frustrating edge to the game.
"Freddie Burns kicked us into the right areas but we didn't capitalise in the right areas of the pitch.
"We highlighted this was a Wales v England thing, and not just Dragons v Gloucester, and that's what the 5,000 people here turned up for.
"Players have to realise that's how they see it. We were sloppy in some of the basics that we've been good at in the last six weeks."
Redpath is right when he says players have to realise that such games are Wales v England as well as club v club, but how easy is that if you are not English or Welsh?
perhaps they would be better of realising that like all professional sport, the game is about winning and in the rain at Newport, they threw away a chance to do so.
After demonstrating that recent Premiership form shouldn’t lead to over-confidence, hopefully they won’t b as wasteful at home to Saracens in the LV= next weekend.

Poor conditions gave a poor game. Glaws made too many basic errors although I was highly impressed with Dickinson, especially his tackle count.

From a neutral point of view I felt that your substitutions were made at the wrong time. Yours boys were just beginning to exert some pressure around 60-65 mins when three guys got subbed and the game came back to Newport. Its a thing that we at Wasps do sometimes, we just seem to make changes without watching whats happening on the field.

Definitely agree with that. Against Leicester, the opposite seemed to apply in that the subs brought the extra energy needed to seal the win. However, this time, I didn't see the need for change with many of the subbed players playing well. C'est la vie!

How about we discuss this face to face in the Jockey before our next home game?

Surely they don't allow big babies like you into the Jockey. The clientèle would never put up with your tantrums. (Sm22)(Sm22)(Sm22)

Wow! That was funny! Why don't you become a comedian? Every time I want to argue with a fool, who has no knowledge of rugby or anything worth saying other than abuse, I simply click on your piece of cack profile.
