Weather puts paid to Glaws Boxing Day game

Obviously crossed fingers don’t work. The weather that has been causing sporting chaos for the last couple of weeks has hit Kingsholm and Boxing Day’s sell-out game against Prem leaders Northampton is off.

A combination of snow and ice and the loss of the RFU hot air pitch balloon means the pitch that was playable last weekend is now unfit.
There could be an arguyment that fourth top v top in the Premiership is a game big enough to warrant the continued use of the system - but it's too late for that.
It’s a major disappointment for the sell-out crowd who love to blow away the Christmas cobwebs with a Boxing Day game filled with terrace and stand traditions – handshakes, hip flasks and turkey sandwiches.
It’s also a blow for the team, who were apparently keen to put the La Rochelle defeat last weekend behind them against a Saints team threatening to open up a very big gap at the top of the table.
And to think it only seems ten minutes since they were in the Championship.
So instead of the math of the day at Kingsholm, it’s the post-Christmas sales, a pint and a pie at the boozer, or a kip in front of some awful film on the telly.
Bah humbug … but Merry Christmas anyway.
