Glaws 2-year unbeaten run comes to an end
Ollie M - try

"We were poor, as a team performance we have to do a lot better. We talk about performance all the time, and today was not one of our best." The after-match comments from a losing coach? No, that's what Saracens' Mark McCall said after his champions won 19-17 at Gloucester.
So if Sarries were poor, what were Glaws as they slumped to their first home defeat in 22 games?
Bryan Redpath wasn't too critical and he told the Citizen: “We lost the game more than they beat us. Nothing to be down about apart from the little things you need to get right in the big games.
“Today we showed that we can compete, but we need to be more consistent.
“It wasn’t about the record it was about needing to compete with the champions.”
Yet it all started so well, Olly Morgan scoring a good early try on the way to an 11-3 half-time lead, but first-half domination slipped away in the second after Nick Wood was binned along with Rhys Gill.
It looked as if Glaws might hold on as kick was matched by kick, but Brad Barritt reacted well to Owen Farrell’s kick and scored the try which Farrell converted for a victory that ended a run going back to October 2009.
The run had to end some time, but for it to go in such a game is a pity because really Glaws could and should have done better.
Before the game, Redpath said he felt Glaws can be good enough to get into this season’s top-four play-offs – not if they play like this against the top teams, Bryan, no matter how strongly you feel it’s nothing to be down about.

That's 7 (and I'm being generous by not including Smit). At the last count I think Glassdoor also lost 7.
As for injuries, we all have them.
But hey, never let the facts get in the way Danny.
I don't know nor care what a 'Gerald Ratner moment' is. Enjoy your trip to Cape Town. I'd love to go if my club did something similar and if I were in a privileged enough position to be able to afford to do so. Enjoy it and I hope it brings you the benefits you expect.

Indeed we also lost 7, but we also had a lot of injuries, many of whom are now back, hence I said /injury. Your choice to dismiss that part of my comment ("we all have them") and focus on the world cup players is your prerogative.
Pah, it's you who brought the World Cup into it, not me. Why even mention it if you knew we were even on World Cup call-ups? Indeed, why mention it if you didn't know?
The Cape Town/Ratner comment is in my signature, which means that, by convention, it is not something anyone need comment on. However, that it is my sig is not clear here because for some reason this board is missing the horizontal line that separates message and signature. If you're too young to know how Gerald Ratner achieved infamy, Google it if you can be bothered.
The point I was trying to make is that your squad is probably the strongest in the premiership, and it's been back together for 2 games now whilst also hitting an impressive stride during the World Cup. Our loss to you was the first time we've had a near 'full' squad to choose from, and I was pleased with the efforts from my team.
You've obviously got a problem with Gloucester and are determined to treat all supporters of my club dismissively. I have no desire to fall out with opposition supporters nor enter into a petty row with you. As you said previously, this is rugby, so respect to Saracens, thanks for a thoroughly entertaining match and I look forward to visiting your ground later in the season.
PS. Thanks, I googled Gerald Ratner, very interesting, although I was only 7 at the time.

I wish people wouldn't keep using the myth that Saracens are performing well because we have lost less players.
Anyway best of the luck for the rest of the season. Gloucester are still a tough team to crack, especially at home.
My point remains, as a squad, for various reasons, we've had less time to gel as a unit. Through a combination of World Cup AND injuries, until we played you, we had 16 players unavailable. Our match against you was the first time we've been close to a full squad, but even still, we've not had much time to gel as a unit. Whereas Saracens players performed in the absence of their World Cup players, and didn't have too many injury issues, making it easier to reintegrate those players, without disrupting too much of the momentum the incumbents have built up. In other words, your team seems to be gelling well as a unit. From my point of view, that's probably because you have the squad depth and have been lucky enough with injury so far, not to have been as disrupted as my team. Just an opinion of course, and that is a very convoluted way of simply saying: "They're fully in their stride now, having not lost many to the world cup/injury, whereas we're starting to get ours back now". I don't see why some of you (well just Bazster really) are so precious over an innocuous comment, meant in good faith, on a board that isn't yours.
Our second row concerns got the stage we were left with no choice but to play Tom Savage for several games, who was captaining Hartpury, several leagues below last season. Fortunately for us, he's been a revelation and left many of us asking "Dave who?!"
I have many Saracens supporting friends, and thoroughly enjoy our games against you. Apart from when playing Gloucester, I genuinely wish your team every success.
Maybe you can explain it to me but surely your team should already know each other. You made very few new signings this season if any?
You retained pretty much all your players. Why is gelling a problem? Also I thought that's what pre season is for?
Were the injuries so great?
Saying we have more squad depth and less injuries concerns makes more sense.
Thanks. I also know some Gloucester fans and they are nice. No problems at all.
I hope you and Quins knock out Toulouse in the HC.
As you say, we didn't sign many players (we signed 5 new players, plus promoted several acadamy players) and as a result we've had to rely on a short term loan signing from Australia, acadamy players as well as losing key players in Paul Doran-Jones, Dave Attwood, Alasdair Dickinson and Nicky Robinson. Fortunately we've done well and the selected players have stepped up.
As you say, saying you have greater squad depth and less injury concerns is a good way of putting the point across, and I said just that:
"From my point of view, that's probably because you have the squad depth and have been lucky enough with injury so far, not to have been as disrupted as my team".
Nevermind, good luck for the rest of the season, hopefully see you at the Fat Blokes again.
