Carry on from Toulose win, Glaws

Gloucester have beaten the best, now they have to start showing that they can also beat the rest as they turn their attentions from a failed Heineken Cup challenge to their effort to retain the LV= Cup they won last season.

The final game of their Heineken campaign was a cracker in every way as Gloucester’s effort and searing pace sent the mighty Toulouse back home to France wondering what had hit them.

Bryan Redpath was rightly delighted with the way his team went into the game, and of course the fans were just as pleased with the way they came out of it.

If only the cherry and whites could add consistency to the sort of flair they showed last weekend.

A home win over Cardiff Blues on Saturday afternoon would be a start. Glaws and Cardiff are old rivals, of course, and it promises to be a tight game. If it’s half as entertaining as the Toulouse match, it really could be a cracker.

Meanwhile, Leicester centre Billy Twelvetrees is allegedly joining Glaws next season, getting a big pay rise and a guarantee of wearing the No12 shirt.

Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has told the BBC: "On Monday he told me he was staying, on Wednesday I was told by his agent he was signing for Gloucester.

"They have assured him of being first choice number 12 for them and his salary has been much improved."

Quotes like that make you wonder whether Leicester are playing games of their own, but the prospect of signing a player of Twelvetrees’s class to play alongside the likes of Jonny May is a good one, even though it pouts questions marks against the Kingsholm futures of other players.

Glaws say the deal has not been finalised, though they admit they have been in talks, at the same time denying that the player would get a big pay increase if he signs and that he has been guaranteed a place.
