Glaws serve up brilliant win

The first course was a disappointment, but the main course was a cracker as Gloucester followed England's Six Nations defeat at the hands of Wales with a stunning 29-23 Kingsholm win over leaders Harlequins.

A great performance and an even better result means Glaws are fifth top in the Premiership, with a clear mathematical chance of a top four finish, especially if they can play like this regularly.

Hopefully the inconsistency that has dogged much of the season is now a thing of the past and form like this suggests Glaws really do have a bright future.

And what a game it was.

Glaws scored three tries to two from the Quins, with Freddie Burns kicking 11 points to 13 from Evans.

First-half tries from Charlie Sharples and a beauty from Jonny May plus those 11 points from Burns gave Glaws a 21-13 lead at half-time, and when Akapusi Qera’s try extended the home lead, a second try for Ross Chisholm narrowed the gap as Quins got a losing bonus point.

Coach Bryan Redpath has every right to feel highly satisfied with the way his team has performed during the Six Nations.

It was a breathless, spectacular game and a fabulous win for born-again Glaws that put those three defeats at the hands of Harlequins this season well and truly behind them.

Three Premiership wins since they bowed out of the LV= Cup appears to suggest they have found out how to win … long may it last.
