Where Did That Cliff Come From?

Nobody saw it coming but we have certainly fallen off a cliff. Five defeats in a row and now our defence of the European Challenge Cup is over thanks to a loss on our own soil.
The inquest will rumble on. On paper our playing squad is better than most and we were not too badly hit by internatoional call-ups, but somewhere down the line the plot has been well and truly lost.
Newport Gwent Dragons came to Kingsholm with nothing to lose and deserved the last minute try which gave them a 23-21 win. They could have gone for a penalty shot but fortune favoured the brave.
We did score tries thanks to Ben Morgan and Steve McColl, but we seem to have lost the knack of closing games out. Dragons kept themsleves ticking over as we gave away daft penalties specially in the first half. The result was a tight finish - one which didn't go our way.
David Humphreys was quite frank in his press conference without suggesting there was a solution in sight:" It is unbelievably disappointing. It is the first time since I have been here that I have sensed the huge frustration from the supporters and everyone in the ground.
"In the two years I have been here, that was without doubt the lowest point. From five weeks ago, we were talking about where the team was going on the back of some big performances.
"For the last five weeks, we have not backed that up. My job and the management team's job is to find out why that is and why we have not delivered after a pretty good start to the season."
