Our magnificent defence in La Rochelle has earned us the chance for some much needed silverware with another big effort required against Stade Francais at Murrayfield on May 12th ..
The Challenge Cup has been a beacon in this disjointed season. Winning it will mean qualification for the Champions Cup, of course, but it will also put a lot of pride back in those who wear the Cherry and White - whether on the pitch or in the Shed.
We got to the final in dramatic style. Billy Burns got all 16 points but this was magnificent team effort as La Rochelle's players and supporters gave it their all.
Our lads stood resolute in the Stade Marcel Deflandre where home kicker Brock James had his chances. However there is no doubt we deserved the win 16-14 win.
It was agonising watching on TV as the slender lead was defended at the death. The home side gave it everything but a vital penalty was won by Ben Morgan at the breakdwon and when the home pack gave it one last big effort stout defence caused them to lose the ball in contact to massive relief from the Gloucs faithfull.
More of the same will be required in Edinburgh against an excellent Stade Francais. Thishis time they won't have home advantage and it promises to be a cracker.
