Gloucs had to settle for two points as Sale edged it 26-24 at Heywood Road. It leaves the Cherry and Whites in fifth place, but crucially with a game in hand on Exeter who are on 56 points compared with Gloucester's 54.

Sharks led early on through Faff de Klerk with Gloucs forcing a few penalties which saw the home pack shunted back over their line to the benefit of Santiago Soccino.

The home side went ahead again through MacGinty who went over form close in only for Soccino to get his second.

End to end as the footballers say but the half ended wth Sale in front courtesy of JP du Preez - unstoppable when he had scent of the whitewash.

The second half began with JL du Preez sshowing he could power over as well to give his side a 26-12 lead.

That was the spur for a Gloucs revival. An interception  from Charlie Chapman saw him go the length of the pitch to score. Louis Hillman-Cooper then set up a tense last ten mniutes as his try took it to 26-24.

Lots of effort but the win on the road evaded the Cherry and Whites. Good game though.
