The Gloucester fans in the Twickenham stands were ecstatic at half time as their side played some of the best rugby of the season to go in with a well-deserved 24-7 lead against a talented Quins XV.
Unfortunately, they couldn't add to their score after the break with Quins taking advantage of some ill-discipline to take the game 28-25.
Therre was no indication of the capitulation in the first half as Gloucs dominated.
Ben Morgan gave his side the lead over from a line-out. Alex Dombrandt got Quins going only for Freddie Clarke
to burst through courtesy of a pass from Santiago Carreras.
Chris Harris put Gloucs further, ahead thanks to Lewis Ludlow's dummy, and things got even better when Adam Hastings slotted a drop goal.
Would Gloucester continue to dominate after half-time? It wasn't to be as a poor line-out ended with Joe Marchant scoring.
He then took advantage as Hastings inadvertently took the ball into touch with the score eventually coming out wide.
Louis Rees-Zammit was then sent to the sin-bin for deliberately slapping the ball down. Quins were again able to take advantage with Cadan Murley getting the winning score.
A point won and the fourth place is still achieveable. However, the Cherry and Whites will need to beat Sarries at Kngsholm on June 4th while Saints will need to lose at home to Falcons.
