Second botttom is not a place any Cherry and White wants to be. However, that is the reality as Gloucs slugged it out in a derby defeat at Bristol with that final European place at stake. The hosts won the game 36-21 but Bath's big win over Saracens Seconds meant they got that final eighth spot.

With the talent in the ranks few would have predicted such a lowly finish, and the summer will now be an interesting one as the club looks to get back on track. However, big playes want the European stage.

George Skivington told the media: "There was some good stuff from us in attack,. We have been building it all season, but it has been too little too late. You have got to finish your chances as well and that is something we will address in the off-season.

"Our set-piece has dropped off towards the end of the season and that is also something we are going to have to look at.

"Maybe we have been spending too much time on attack in training."
