It was always going to be a tough ask but Gloucester did enough in the 26-35 defeat by Sarries to show that a top half finish is very possible. And after last season that's a big bonus.

Getting a try bonus point is a boost and after the first half handling jitters - including from the new half-backs - the Cherry and Whites settled down to provide some good running rgby and a marked improvement in tackling.

George Skivington summed it up for the media saying "I think we played with endeavour. I think they never tried to stop playing rugby. But we weren't clinical enough, we dropped a lot of balls in that first half and ultimately we gave too many easy penalties away."

Freddie Thomas got Gloucester's first league try of the season with, Freddie Clarke and Jack Clement crossing before Seb Blake secured the bonus point late in the game. Sadly Sarries managed to get five tries
