It was a nervy 31-26 win for the Cherry and Whites at the old training ground as Hartpury  University sniffed a chance with ten minutes to go.

A penalty try for the hosts with Freddie Clarke and Josh Hathway in the bin gave some cause for conern among the travelling support.

However, Gloucs held out to earn a bonus point start to the defence of their Prem Cup title. That bonus point was in the bag before half-time thanks to tries from Freddie Clark, Albert Tuisue, Josh Hathaway and Ioan Jones.

Hartpury had more of the second half with Gloucs grateful for Tuisue's second try which gave them that five point breathing space.

Cornish Pirates ar Kingsholm next week.
