No Middle Ground

A 'must win' match for us against Middlesex - the men in Pink. The weather is not clear, dull and windy in fact. We will probably go with the usual side. I did not see our practice session but Ben Phillips was bowling although Craig Meschede is out there with the lads. Whichever players grace the oitch today the requirements are simple...we need the points!
v Middlesex T20 @ Taunton Sunday 4th July 2010
Rumours of Craig Kieswetter being back for this game seem to have been greatly exaggerated I am afraid everyone. Jos Buttler has the gloves on and there is no sign of our England man. Craig Meschede - the promising young allrounder has been brought into the squad for this one but Ben Phillips has been bowling and is playing football so one would assume it is just for the experience.
The side is probably going to be;
Trescothick, Compton, de Bruyn, Hildreth, Pollard, Buttler, Suppiah, Phillips, Kartik, Thomas, Turner
We have lost the toss and are batting first for a change. The side is above and Warner is not playing for the 'Sex. His place is taken by Jackson Thompson who hit big here for the Unicorns earlier in the season. The crowd is about 4K.
Marcus and Compton will face Murtagh from the OP and he keeps them in check for the first two balls though the Somerset captain connects with all the deliveries. Then he gives him space with ball three and is creamed into the crowd by Cow Corner, this makes him a little wary and he tries to get his line straighter. He doesn't and the boss drives him to the electronic scoreboard. Four more would have come from the last one if not for some excellent fielding. 11 after the first. Collins opens from the River and we take 9 without a boundary from him.
Murtagh continues and his second ball long hop is dispatched by Nick very well...straight down down the throat of Berg in front of the Caddick pavilion and he goes for 6 at 20.....the only fielder on that side of the ground!! Compton's woes continue and Hildreth takes his place. Unfortunately he can't get it away and Murtagh bowls a maiden.
No worries though because Banger takes Pedro for 3 fours and a six to take us to 38 as the crowd swells to nearer 6K surprisingly - and they are still coming in. They see the skipper cover drive Murtagh over the infield for 4 to bring up the Somerset 50 with the last ball of the 5th - 53 for 1.
This brings Henderson on for the 6th and Hildreth is lucky as he cuts his second ball straight to Berg, however it is very low and he can't get his hands under it, misses the ball and it goes for four. A final straight drive which almost takes Tyrone off his feet on its way to the Botham boundary suggests that it could be a costly miss.
Berg gets the chance to redeem himself with the ball taking the 7th at 65 for 1 but Marcus deposits his first with one bounce into the Ondaatje seats. The last gets swept by the same man to his own stand boundary and it's 79 for 1 starting the 8th. A streaky mishit single takes him to 50 off 22 balls (8 fours and 2 sixes).
Smith gets the 9th and sees his fourth ball go into the Gimblett from our boss to bring up the 100 and at 102 for 1 they bring on Owais Shah who sees his first ball into the St Johns car park courtesy of the same man!! His touch isn't yet there but the power is back and he is going for it in a BIG way. There are days when you really don't want to bowl to this man. I'm not yet sure whether this is one of them but he has 73 to his name and we aren't at 10 overs yet!
It's 113 for 1 after 10 overs with Berg starting the second phase. with a wide long hop that gets the Trescothick treatment and flies to the Somerset Stand boundary. The next is another dreadful ball, it gets an awful heave from the skipper who misses it and that fools the keeper who also misses it and it goes for four. Berg's plan seems to be to bowl short and legside. He does and his next ball goes for another four. leven overs and we have 128. The over got everything it deserved!!
Shah is retained for over 12 and he gets Tresco going for another big one with a slog sweep. He's caught by Murtagh at deep square for 83 38 balls 11 fours and 4 sixes) and gets a standing ovation as he leaves. In comes someone called Pollard and if ever a game was set up for him this is it. But he skies one to long on and he's gone for one courtesy of the hands of Berg again. Shah gets two for 2!! 130 for 3 and in comes ZdB.
Then I go out for a nice Styles ice cream and the thing falls to bits. First de Bruyn is bowled by the diminutive Smith (who must be glad he didn't see Pollard in front of him at all) as we bring up the 150 and then Hildreth is caught plumb in front without reaching his 50.
Suddenly 200 looks unlikely and we are 151 with two new batsmen at the crease in Arul and Jos. However all is not lost as both of them hit massive sixes before the end of the 18th and we reach 181 with 12 balls to go. Suppiah's was a huge one into the boxes at Cow Corner to take us to 171 while Buttler's was the other way into the Trescothick (tapped over by the fielder on the boundary) to reach that 18th over score.
Murtagh gets the penultimate over and it's a good one until Jos reverses him very finely to take us to 190. Pedro gets the last one and the treatment from Arul with a six to the Somerset Stand followed by a fine guide past the keeper to bring up the 200. The third is miscued out for a single. Ball four, is straight driven but ony for a single and the same can be said of ball number 5. The last is an attetmpt at a reverse sweep but we finish on 204 for 5.
It should have been a lot more to be honest. We were looking at possibly another 20+ at the halfway stage and it faltered a bit. Is it enough? Well it's not beyond them one would suggest so the bowlers have to finish this today rather than set up the batting.
The Reply
Alf opens from the OP for us as Middlesex send out Scott Newman (first to face) and Jackson Thompson for what I think is his 'Sex debut. They flip a four off the third ball which strays down the leg side but Thomas nearly has Newman as he gives him a slower delivery as he flags he is coming up the wicket. He squirts a fuller ball out and takes a single and by the end of the over they have the 5 they need to make the required total a simple 200.
Phillips gets the nod for over number 2 from the River and some help from the weather (which is still dull and overcast) as he beats newman with his first. The man in pink gets someting on the second though as it flies for a boundary followed by a quick single to bring the big hitter on strike for the first time. They try and scamble another one and nearly lose wicket number one as the VC just misses the stumps running in from the Cowshed. 12 for no loss after 2. 193 needed and Turner gets the call for over 3.....testing times.
His first two are not wonderful but the batsmen are really not flowing at the moment and he nearly gets one with his first short and widish delivery. It is pretty agricultural out there from the Middlesex openers. Ball 3 gets the treatment - a one bounce four - while ball four sees the bowler nearly run out another batsman as they go for another bit of suicide but he doesn't gather the ball on his follow through and they get there. It's 20 after 3 as MT goes for 8.
Jackson is attacking but the ball is not finding any kind of sweet spot and the fours are getting there more through luck than good judgement. Nevertheless two of them make it to the boundary and they have 29 after 4. Turner continues for the fiifth as the clouds close in and rain looks possible. The opposition are just throwing the bat at anything with very little skills. It's all bottom edges and swings and misses and huge follow throughs. But they are still there until Newman top edges one straight up and Marky takes the catch 31 for 1. Owais is the next in and he survives the last ball of the 5th
Pollard starts his work from the River and Shah takes 2 off his first. Thompson sends his second to what is fast becoming his favourite part of the ground - the boundary in front of the Trescothick stand. 41 after 6. Kartik is on to his old team-mate Shah who is up the wicket to him ball one and smiting him for 6 to the Cowshed. Thompson adeptly reverse sweeps the spinner to bring up 'Sex 50 and they take 18 off Kartik's first (and possibly only). Discussions ensue at 59 for 1 after 7 but the end result is that Pollard continues at the River end.
67 at the end of the 8th and Kartik is staying on but bowling what one member of the press politely calls 'tosh' at the OP. However it gets him a wicket as a loose on to leg is followed by a decent one to off which Jackson plays on. A good 32 off about 22 balls - he doesn't hide his objective which is to smack the ball hard. Malan replaces him at 73 for 2 and survives the end of the over which ends at 77.
Alf beats Malan with his first of the 10th from the River and there's more swing and miss as they scramble to 81 at halfway. The boss persists with Kartik who keeps tempting Shah who is looking to put him away. He comes further and further up the wicket and is finally stumped by Buttler and departs with words to the Somerset fielders who return the favour by suggesting it is time for him to leave the field as his work is done!! 89 for 3 at the end of the 11th.
Turner comes back from the River for number 12 with Henderson the non striker and Malan smacking his first for four to the Caddyshack boundary. Henderson snicks one past Buttler which drops just in front of Alf who fools the crowd by throwing the ball up. Just a single though and no wicket. MT keeps them 2 under 100 and Kartik bowls Malan with his first delivery as the Panther tries to reverse sweep him and misses the ball. 98 for 4 and in comes the skipper Dexter.
But he doesn't stay long as Turner goes for speed line and length and takes his off stump out at the middle of the 14th. He finishes with an excellent 23 for 2 and the over ends at 104 for 5. Ben is on for over 15 and Tyrone launches him to the press box for 6 to arrive at 'Nelson'. He sends one like a rocket straight at Phillips. It bounces off him so hard that it almost returns to the batting crease. He finally skies one that Thomas hares in from the boundary to take diving forward - excellent catch to send Berg back at 114 for 6.
Zander gets his first bowl of the game with the opposition needing 18 an over to get home. It doesn't look too likely as he keeps Henderson in check until he plops one in the mighty meat paddles of Pollard in front of the Somerset Stand 120 for 7.
85 needed off 4 and Alfonso is the man to bowl. He roughs up Scott and finally he snicks one to Buttler as a sqaull passes across the ground 122 for 8 with Pollard on at the River and Middlesex needing 83 off 3. Murtagh smashes one back so quickly that Pollard simply catches it on his follow through and points to the dressing room instinctively as he runs past the batsman. 125 for 9 sees Collins in. KP bounces him, Collins hooks and snicks. Off goes KP and we win 125 all out by 79 runs!
Great performance with a little help from the visitors.

Squad: Dexter (c), Berg, Collins, Davey, Henderson, Malan, Murtagh, Newman, Roland-Jones, Scott, Shah, Smith, Warner, Williams (Robbie, of that ilk).
I wonder if the choice of Meschede as cover indicates that he is a good bowler? Because if he's really a batsman, we'd look a little light on bowling, sans both Ben and Pete.

Middx did not field well and it is partly for that reason that I think if we bowl and field anything like, then we should win by 35 runs or so.

Kartik improved after his wicket, but I still thought his figures flattered him, overall

Excellent performance. Especially pleasing for Marcus.
Now, let's keep Mr Hyde buried in that box!
Grizzzly
Realistically, it would have needed a Shah or a Henderson to match Tresco for them to push us. It was particularly pleasing to see Turner bowl so well.
3-0 now, when defending, with two wins by walkover vs 4-4 when chasing. I rest my case!
Good spell from Turner - last over showed some real speed and a decent length - he really has to learn from this!!

Great ct and bowled by KP, I didn't even see the ball, it was hit so hard.
Great to see Tres come to the party.
Someone should take note of the excellent crowd today, a SUNDAY, with easy parking and access. One day the pa might work in the Somerset Stand, but we can live without that.
There seemed to be a few seat allocation problems, with ticketless fans sitting in the seats allocated to ticket-holders.
It looked sparse at the start but filled up quickly and according to those who count it was the biggest crowd of the tournament so far.
Have to agree AG we do look more in control when we set the target at home. Once again we did it without Kieron with the bat.
How soon it is that we seem unsurprised at scores of over 200 in 20 overs - Even disappointed!!

Great catch by Alf as well as by KP!
Tres was obviously pretty good, but I was really impressed by Hildreth, who managed to score quickly while making sure he didn't face much of the strike. Good play too by Suppiah and Jos at the end to make sure we didn't stumble - I seem to remember watching Arul struggle to hit it off the square a few years ago, but two sixes came at the right time for him.
Good all round bowling - didn't think Karthik bowled badly at all after his first ball, needing 11 an over they were always going to try to go after him, and it worked for 8 balls.
Absolutely stunning C+B by Pollard, but possibly not as good as the catch by Alf who absolutely screamed in off the boundary to take it on the slide at full pace.
Also, I know they had MT to contend with, but we seemed to have our fielders much better placed, with many of their powerful shots in the powerplay going straight to a man on the rope.
OLDBOYBA!
I am so pleased for Marcus to see him play so well today.
I thought Jos kept wicket very good today.
Also Mark Turner, it was one of the best bowling I have seen from him.
Photos.
Arul Suppiah hitting 6 runs.
B Scott ct Buttler bld Thomas it was too good a ball for him.
D Malan missing a ball from Kartik and Buttler was hoping for a stumping.
It’s good that James Hildreth (4 runs) keeping his form going until the season starts again.
N Dexter bld Turner he was beaten by pace.
S Newman, Turner has a funny effect on people.
This has taken me a bit longer I have never kept so many photos, 72 photos to deal with and I always take two different formats for each one making 144 in total.

I would think that both sides could be disappointed with that.
There appeared, to me, to be very little movement of the ball at all, either off the pitch or through the air for the seamers. Certainly, generally speaking the dot balls were not ones which beat the batsmen. Rather, I think shots were generally hit quite hard but straight at fielders.
I'd suggest that shot placement in the power-play might be something at which both sides could possibly work?

A complaint will be made , but I would be interested to hear any views here of this.

I always thought members had access to members stuff - but there have been some strange bits this year.
I'd give 'em hell and you'll probably find it was a steward who didn't know what the hell was going on. Not an excuse though.

OLDBOYBA!
There's all these blokes in different colour hi-viz jackets with labels on the back - no idea what they do but they are everywhere.
The security facing the crowd is over the top but then all this H and S is a bit like that.

As for the stewards in orange coats, they are all trained to NVQ level 2 and do an excellent job, being very helpful. The other guys are the equivalent of security staff for clubs / pubs and I think they are unnecessary most of the time. Everyone knows that entry to the playing area is forbidden and so I don't think it's reasonable for the club to pay vast sums of money for their services, unless the ground safety certificate demands it.
We were met by a member of staff, who after we showed out membership cards just grunted to us and pointed us under the Botham stand,we then met another person, who told us we were not allowed to use the members areas as the club run 2 memberships,a Twenty20 one and a county one. That, has nothing to do with us,not our problem. We were shunted to another part of the ground and told we can sit behind the red taped off area, unacceptable im afraid.
The members area was fairly full, but i counted 30+ empty seats all game.
A long, exspensive day today,i will email the club to take this further.
Just thought you would all like to see what happened.
By the way,a deserved win,we came up against an inform Somerset today.
I'm surprised you weren't allowed in the Member Areas though. Would you mind letting us know what response you get from the Club? Thanks.
Will be interested to hear.
It was a long and tiring journey.
I can confirm, despite showing our Membership Cards, we were not allowed to sit in The Members Areas.
Instead, we were directed to The Public Stands and had to sit near the back behind some red ribbon.
I am afraid I will not be going back to this ground again in a hurry.
By the way,,I have to say, that even though Middlesex had to field a side, torn apart by Call Ups,Injuries and The Finn Debacle,we were comprehensively beaten and outplayed by Somerset.

It's a shame that visiting members can't be accommodated in the member facilities. I understand why they wouldn't allow me into the Long Room, as I had a choice of including 20/20 in my membership, but am happy to sit with my family in another area, often with a pretty good view. The bar prices are the same for all, no really cheep beer as at Middx in the Pavilion.
Oh for the joys of proper cricket. Not long now!!!
When I recently ask how it was done now and got the same answer I was surprised, couldn’t they have a complete section instead that would be easier to deal with. I was expecting that the seats would have a reserved sign on them.
OLDBOYBA!
I talked to a long term steward the other day who also talked a lot about the new systems and how unwieldy they are.
But the law is now the law I suppose and the concept of common sense seems to have gone out the window.
Why can't kids go on the outfield? I know we are all supposed to know we can't but can someone please explain to me why a kid with a bat playing cricket on a CRICKET pitch with a soft ball is dangerous to anyone who has a brain?
Please include in your explanation why we have to look at a bunch of blokes with earpieces and hi-viz jackets standing in a semi-circle facing the crowd for the whole of the interval when I know that should I wish to go on the pitch even at my advanced age I could outpace any of them. I've been told I can't. Do they assume I will refuse to accept that and need the implied threat to be taken further? Surely permanent signs saying that should be enough and a hell of a lot cheaper?

Clearly it was otherwise there would be no grounds for complaint.
Suggest it would be good to find out what should / should not have been expected before demanding rights at an away venue.
If there are to be restrictions on seating for members from visiting counties, it would make sense for these to be publicised both on the SCCC website and the visiting county's website, so that people can have some idea what to expect.
LoL
Sixty-six Seasons a Somerset Supporter
Did Somerset have an arrangement with several clubs where members could use the member’s area on away match, unless I am completely off the beaten track wasn’t Gloucester and Glamorgan two clubs and was Middlesex another?
As I said it is only a vague memory.
Lol don't expect common sense to be used. That's not the future.

Perhaps not ideal comparison as there was a smaller crowd and a low key atmosphere probably due to England football debacle that day.

Very rude,it shows us all in a very bad light.
If this is what this format of the game has become they can stick it where the sun don't shine.
Moving with the times?
Going backwards if you ask me.
I really feel for all the Middlesex fans concerned, just to let you know that this wouldn't have happened had there been real cricket being played.
It's bemusing how satisfaction is gained from taking a mis-informed swipe at t20 even if it means undermining one's own club.
Anyhow, the facts. At Taunton, there is no reciprocal Membership arrangement for any one day games. No problem for County Championship but not for one day fixtures.
Somerset Membership numbers exceed capacity in Members' Stands and with Member attendance being greater at the one day games, the club puts its Members first. If the club allowed Members from other counties to sit in the Members' Stands to the detriment of Somerset Members, there would be serious uproar.
Nevertheless, quality seating is available to Members from other counties around the ground. There was adequate space in the Somerset Stand yesterday from which I enjoyed a fantastic view.
The Somerset Stand is also filled up from the front going back by anyone ordering in advance (not just online) and wanting a guaranteed seat. However, if not sold out, before the game the tape is put up to define the line in each block between 'pre-sold' and 'still available'.
If this didn't happen, then there may not be enough seating for General Admission tickets who may then wish to occupy the rear seating.
Also not particularly helpful to direct this one at the stewards. As Botham points out, they are all trained to NVQ level 2 and do an excellent job. The club takes this aspect very seriously and the staffing is well managed.
Finally, this appears to be more about a difference in expectations rather tahn any 'lapse of hospitality'.
As BristoRob has commented 'guest members can use home priveliges at the discretion of the home county'. Clearly that should have been checked out first rather than making assumptions and kicking up a fuss later.
P.S. 'It's not an ideal comparison', i.e. t20 at Glos v Somerset. Almost right. It is no comparison.

I hope it is not left to Somerset supporters to apologise for what happened and our club sends an apology to the Middlesex club.
Even if was a misunderstanding of what was expected.
I can't think why anyone else would bother to write such a long repudiation of a post critical of the arrangements.
I myself was sat here thinking that members' seating capacity may not be sufficient to seat both all of our members that want to see the game, plus members of the oppo, but I wasn't going to bust a gut making that or similar points!
The jobsworth attitude stinks, though doesn't surprise me.
It's not an ill informed swipe at T20,BB.
It's a shame you can't open your eyes and see that.
It's not just money that makes the world go around, you know.
Though having read your posts I don't think you'd even begin to understand that.
Respect people and they respect you.
Treat them like cattle, and the result is obvious.

Well, I'd be surprised if we cannot take what Bath Bob says about club policy as gospel because, let's face it, he probably drafted the policy!

Something wasn't clear and therefore someone wasn't happy?
Why wasn't it clear?
Because no-one on either side seems to have made it clear or checked the clarity?
What has this achieved?
Maybe it won't happen next time because someone will learn the lesson and make sure it doesn't
Would this public conversation have happened if forums like this did not exist?
Doubt it.
Lessons Learned
Visiting Spectators - check the arrangments beforehand
Welcoming clubs - don't blame the spectators afterwards for poor communication or lack of information. Make sure it is clear and why it is happening beforehand and on the day.
If you aren't going to give your staff the relevant info then you put them under pressure. If they are to be the first line of communication then they'll need a little more than NVQ Level 2 (lots of knowledge and understanding not a whole lot of interpretation and evaluation in context)
Signage people Signage!
Possibly a little less announcing about the legal consequences of walking on to the pitch and a little more about where you can sit to enjoy the game perhaps?

Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 2010:07:05:17:41:09 by Grockle.
Problem solved.
A pity things can't all be dealt with that easy.

Mike you are not after the Head Stewards position are you ?
I hope the club paid you for sorting out there problems.
I don't think they bothered to announce the first three Middx bowlers, either?
I don't recall either Murtagh or Collins being introduced, though I knew who they were and had to tell others around me that asked. I can't remember who their first change bowler was, but I don't think he was announced either. They did announce the fourth Middx bowler.
People walk into the Somerset Stand and sit in any spare seat, not realising that a ticket-holder may be allocated to that seat. Yesterday, there was a big crowd so most people probably tried to sit in their reserved seats rather than finding another if theirs was occupied, hence some confusion.
The stewards are overwhelmed just prior to the start and can't possibly check all tickets.
I'd suggest that the club talks to people like me who have varied experience of what goes on, if they really do want to keep the ordinary fans.
Nice catch BJ.
OLDBOYBA!
The announcer also announced Marcus at the start of our innings then completely ignored Nick and went on to name the two umpires!

I thought my comments on this thread were pretty balanced, so it's sad that you feel the need to have a go!

I wonder how many took out t20 membership this year.
I know a lot of platinum and life members don't go to t20 matches because they don't like it and those that travel a distance to get to Taunton.
I didn't come to any last year because i didn't it worth while traveling.
I just found it amusing that you believed the club would come to you for some kind of balanced view of their work after the years of reading your comments here - didn't know we were only going on this one thread.

Apartheid strikes again!
I can't get this comment out of my head. I'm sure Bob didn't mean to draw any genuiune parallel between two formats of cricket, and the murderous regime from South Africa.
However, there is a notion of incompatibility of the formats, very clearly visible on here. My view is that the fractured season contributes - in a very major way - to the chasm in preference.
Personally while I prefer the longer formats, I am very happy to watch 20/20. However, I do resent the fact that ALL OTHER CRICKET stops when 20/20 starts.
Basically, there has been full sympathy in responses fromo Chief Exec and Marketing guy. Standard Customer Relations stuff with a straight bat.
As someone here pointed out here the biggest fear was Somerset members not getting seat in members area and outrage this would cause. Beefy did say that whilst sitting behind red tape he did notice about 30 spare seats in members area.
From what I gathered the attitude of stewards was a big problem.
Personal experience, my last visit to Taunton watching Middx was a very pleasant one, but then again I did not want to sit in members area.

Hopefully your mail willl make sure it doesn't happen to travelling members again, or if it does it will be down to insufficient forward research rather than a panicky response from the ill informed at the point of trying to find a seat!

Good resolution Kev. I wish we had the MTWD democracy here.
Say it out in the open. Implication gets you nowhere.

Grizzzly
It happened on more than one occasion last year and it will not happen without comment this season or any other season in the future.
I wish we had the MTWD democracy here.
If someone can give me another interpretation of what that comment means then I will happily remove the last two posts
So...either come out and say clearly what you mean or leave little comments such as this where they belong.
The offer has been made to provide for a debate if posters want it on more than one occasion by PM but last time I did say I would ask for explanation or withdrawal the next time it happened on the site and that is exactly what I am asking for now.
I explained to a banned poster here (the only banned poster I may add) that the way these sites operate is on the basis of a benevolent autocracy. Someone has to control content but only when it is made necessary to do so. I have deleted nothing exccept redundant material for well on a year now and I have never done so without letting the person related to it know why and giving them the right of reply. MTWD operates in roughly the same way though they have a team of moderators because of Ged's work regime I think.
BOTH sites are essentially democratic beyond that basic fact. The nature of a democracy is that anyone says what they like but anyone else can ask them to justify their comment
Therefore Botham you have 48 hours - explain it or withdraw it.

The only banned poster?
I was under the impression that the legendary ‘Loverboy’ was banned, and I know for sure that I was – although I never really appreciated why.
That makes two by my count.
IMO committees of ONE are best, and surely the fun we get from swapping thoughts and ideas is sufficient to suggest that we abide by the rulings of our moderator.
OLDBOYBA!

Do you mean Oligarchy Botham? Because MTWD certainly is no more a democracy than this site.
I don't think the moderators are elected and I think Ged has the casting vote in any major decision.
So we are a benevolent Autocracy and they are a benevolent Oligarchy (unless you have another name for it) with an Autocrat in the decision breaking position.

Must admit both emails went in depth about policies on T20/one day matches and county games.
Also put that these problems are to be taken up with the ground manager to ensure more appropriate and helpful info is passed on to travelling supporters in future.
Both emails carried on about membership numbers etc.
Just thought you would be interested in the main parts of the reply.
Have also replied to both people to thank them for their swift and full reply.
I still think it would be worth the county publishing the information in advance on their own website and requesting to do so on that of any visiting county.

In other words, Middlesex could also have rung SCCC and verified the arrangements on behalf of their travelling fans.
Either way, it should not be left to fans to either guess or have to all ring up the club individually to find out. One or, preferably, both clubs should make the relevant info available on their website.

Banned posters do not return
Suspended posters do.
You were offered a choice of suspension or not.
You chose to accept suspension and then chose to revoke that suspension and return.
I'm sure you can find the thread that explained it to you if you are desperate. It also explained it to all other members of the community exactly why the suspension was an issue, how it could be avoided and what was required to ensure it was not invoked. If you want to go back through the back pages (unless SN have removed it because there seems to be less pages of archive than there used to be) then I think it is still there.
As far as I am concerned that passage of time is over and the issue was resolved but you were never banned. You could have returned at any time and chose the length of your suspension period and eventually did to what I thought was our mutual agreement.
In the only other case of suspension there was a warning and then the breaking of an SN rule which resulted in a short fixed term suspension,
Only one person has ever been banned and that was on the request of MTWD for abuse of the rules on two sites and the PM system.
Hope that helps.

Most if not all the county membership wouldn’t go to t20 matches otherwise they would have taken the platinum membership that include the t20 matches for an extra £75.
It is good that the club responded so quickly maybe this site help with that.

I am fully cognisant of the facts of my ban in 2009, because I have access to all the postings, as well as the Private Messages that took place between us.
You say: -
“Banned posters do not return.”
“Only one person has ever been banned.”
And yet, I have retrieved the following, which clearly indicates to one and all that I was banned.
"The (user)name "Clarence Parker" has been banned from use. (Message from Sportnetwork)

Thank you for your response. That complies with my initial request and therefore the ban will disappear as soon as I can get around to it (hopefully tonight).
I'll drop a simple message on saying things are sorted and asking posters to continue as if it never happened and the line will be drawn there I hope.
Welcome back.

The moderation issue regarding Clarence Parker has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and the ban has therefore been lifted as of now.
I'd like to request that we assign this whole incident to the 'history' bin as far as the public forums are concerned and simply welcome the member back to Grocklee status as a body via this message.
Thanks"
You also say, “As far as I am concerned that passage of time is over and the issue was resolved but you were never banned.”
I fully agree with you that "passage of time is over", and I have no wish to debate the matter any further, as it is all water under the bridge as far as I am concerned.
But, I have felt it necessary to write this to let it be known to all and sundry that I was banned, and to remind you that your recollection and interpretation of the said events is therefore inaccurate.
Likewise, I hope this helps.

If it still rankles with some there's little I can do about it and it's been clarified now so it's done as far as I am concerned.

Nothing rankling here... we were all much relieved when one person stopped appearing in our midst
Well I'm back and you'll just have to get used to it.....

Even I am not permitted to sit up there and would be stopped in doing so. Why are people managing to get up there in the first place?
