So tonight we are live at the SWALEC against the Welsh once more. It is live on S4C for free (as long as you can cope with the commentators coughing and spluttering through it. We are through to the quarters and are now looking for a home tie at that level. Crofty will be saying a lot - but luckily most of it will be incomprehensible this side of the bridge!! v Glamorgan T20 @ SWALEC Stadium Wednesday 14 July 2010
Glamorgan won the toss and decided to bat first. It looks very sparse around the stadium and a bit drizzly and grey.
Our side stays the same except we welcome back Craig Kieswetter with Arul makes way for him and Jos gives him the gloves. He will probably open with his captain. Mark Turner also stays in despite calls for another spinner to be included - that is probably because of the weather I think. The side therefore is;
Cosgrove is opening for his county and he faces Alf at the start and after a scratchy start he gets off the strike only for Kartik to fumble Allenby's first attempt at a scoring shot - very poor drop at slip. Should be 1 for 1 after 6 balls!
Phillips opens as usual from the 'Catherdral Road end' and Cosgrove smacks him for six off the first! Allenby finally gets on strike, plays down the wrong line to a full one and all the stumps go flying!! Good job for MK he goes for 0 so the drop wasn't costly. In comes Wallace and It's 8 for 1 after 2.
Now we have the Turner over - what shall we get tonight? Well we get a result from the short ball as Wallace gets all tucked up and skies one back to the bowler and he's C&B'd for 10. Tom Maynard is next in and he gets the Turner we want to see as he beats him with one and tucks him up with another. He goes for 2 and one of them was a wide.
Phillips continues and Cosgrove tries to destroy the next and snicks it through to go in a very careless way and it is 10 for 3 in the 4th over. The Welsh seem to have left their brains in the changing rooms on a lively wicket against some very sharp Someset bowling. The term 'headless chickens' describes the home side pretty well at the moment. It's 13 for 3 after 4 with Wright and Maynard facing. He relieves the pressure a little with a boundary and then takes Turner on by coming up the wicket and hitting another. They obviously think Mark is a possible one to get after. He starts to bowl short and the ball flies but as the radio says. if he bowls back of a length on off he'll get wickets. They take 14 off him and it's 27 after 5.
They bring Pollard on for the 7th with Glamorgan on 36 for 3 and he goes for 6 but the boss has brought Alf back early to try and rip through the middle order (they believe they are a bit weak in the tail area). However, they have to get past Maynard first and although he wanders about a bit and is making streaky runs, he does take them past 50 in the 8th. In fact that is how the over ends.
Wright and Maynard reach 50 off 36 balls and put the equilibrium back into the home side's innings as Kartik takes his first as over number 10 and ends it on 68 at halfway. Turner takes number 11 and pushes the batsmen. He bowls a lot of short stuff and eventually gets Wright pulling into the safe hands of Hildreth. 71 for 4 as the captain Dalrymple comes to the middle. At the end the paceman has 2 for 20 off 3 and the Dragons are 72 for 4.
Turner finishes his spell with fuller, confident deliveries and he gets Maynard flinging the ball out to Buttler on the boundary. 75 for 5. 4 overs and 3 for 25, We got the good version tonight. Well done sir!
80 for 5 and Phillips is back against a partnership seeming to look for singles. He goes for 3 and finishes with 2 for 20. Anoher good evening for Ben. Kartik will also finish at the end of the 16th leaving Thommo and Polly to finish off. MK goes for 21 (9 off the first) and it's 92 for 5.
Rees and Dalrymple seem to have no urgency at all as they look for singles against the VC with only 4 overs left. They are not facing an attacking field but they seem to have no desire to push the total along at all. The commentators are asking why Glamorgan have a left hander at number 6 with a scoring rate of 17 a T20 game. Our number 7? Jos Buttler! 95 for 5 after 17. They are happy with 3 off the over!!!!
Pollard takes the 18th in a very quiet stadium all shaking their heads at the strategy of their batting line-up. Dalrymple tries to help a wide-ish one to the boundary but all he does is top edges it, puts it up high and gives an easy catch to the keeper. 96 for 6 as Harris comes out to give us something to watch. since the 13th over Glamorgan have worked at a rate of 4.2 runs an over.
The 100 comes up as Pollard nearly gets Rees by running him out but manages to side foot the ball wide. Comments about Bobby Gould's training session abound.
Thommo is on hand for the penultimate and beats Harris but he gets a bit on it and it slides to the boundary. The young bowler also gets a boundary off the next and in less than an over he reaches the score that Rees has made. Alf finishes at 112 for 6 he goes for 22 and his last went for 10!
The last then. Number 1 is a dot and the second is a bye and on it goes as Rees continues to unimpress and Pollard gets Harris with the last ball. 116 for 7 - uninspiring is an understatement.
The Reply
See off Sean Tait and this should be ours as Marcus Trescothick and Craig Kieswetter go out to start the reply. It has the feel of a dead rubber but we need the points to go top so it is vital that we do this right. However, Harris starts for the Welsh and the skipper is off the mark ball one. Craig doesn't look as easy. He spots a couple and then is up the wicket heaving at one and missing it completely. He does not look in touch at all as he is beaten by the next one. Five swipes, five misses and CK is still there luckily.
Tait is on at the Cathedral end to the skipper who smacks him over the inner field for four. The next is very fast a lifting tucking Banger up. However ball three goes for six using the Aussie's pace - a dab shot that just flies into the Taff. Nevertheless Tait fights back but goes for 14 as the Boss drives his last one for another four. Good contest though.
Craig looks well out of it as he is nearly C&B'd by Harris off his first. He finally gets the ball he's waiting for and sixes it to get off the mark. The next goes into the Taff as well to take us to 27. It was truly huge. Harris comes back though as he bowls Craig off an inside edge (it was a wide 'yorker' that he didn't need to play). Not a great return but he has got us off to a huge start. Peter is in next which is good - don't shove him back down the order when he's showing something. 27 after 3.
Tait versus Trescothick stage 2 starts with a driven four from the s kipper. The Glamorgan bowler oversteps and gives him a free hit with a horrendous wide but he gets away with it with a huge short ball that leaves Banger with no chance. However he hooks the next one for a massive six - England must be wishing this bloke was available because he's giving the Austrailian fast a torrid time with 2 sixes and 3 fours as we reach 39 for 6 after 4.
Harris keeps the county in it though as Trigger steps away and bottom edges the ball to slip. 39 for 2. James Hildreth is the next man in needing to slow this down a bit. Accumulate and let the captain do his stuff. 43 for 2 off 5 with excellent figures from Harris. Marcus has hit Tait out of the attack for the moment as Allenby comes on to replace him.
At 44 for 2 the rain comes in from nowhere and off they go. They aren't off for long and there is no loss of overs as they return to finish over number 6 at 45 for 2.
Dalrymple bowls Harris out but the rain returns and they come off again at 48 for 2 - we are well ahead of the D/L so if this keeps up we'll take the points. But the rain clears and we find ourselves with the wonderful D/L revised total of 92 off 15 overs which leaves us needing 44 off 8.2 at 9:55.
Harris is in and Hildreth attacks but gets a lucky two off a skied swipe. He takes a single off the last ball of the 7th leaving 41 to get off 8. Tait will continue (probably his last).
We move on to 67 for 3 before Crofty comes in, he tries to sweep him down the leg first bowl and he is bowled. In comes Kieron to face Croft. We are still ahead of the D/L but we need to be careful. The strange thing is that Dalrymple turns to Cosgrove - he went for 14 off his first and he now comes in against Trescothick who takes a four off the first and is dropped by the home skipper next ball. MT mistimed it but it wasn't hard, Pollard gets a thick outside edge for four to take us to 78 with four overs left. Marcus has passed 50 and they are simply milking the bowling to get the runs they need after Croft's next the score has come down to needing 6...so KP smacks it back over Robert's head and we go to the top of the table.
Prestty devastating win over a lacklustre Welsh side. Whoppee!

Rain should have stopped by start of play.Remember it's a hit and giggle match so they'll play in anything.Cardiff drains well as it runs down into the river.
Im looking forward to getting over to the Swalec stadium this evening.
Interesting to see that Craig is back and is expected to open the batting,im sure Shaun Tait will be hoping he does.
Im expecting Somerset to win comfortably tonight and march on toward the top of the group.
Tait will be a big threat. It will probably be gloomy, light wise, which will help him with his express pace. The Cardiff surface can often be dry as well though and if it's abrasive, he might be able to get it to reverse at the death, too.
Last year we needed a one-man batting effort from Zander to prevail.
The game can go from you so quickly in this format so you have to be up for it at the start.
Personally I would put PT up first, in form and liable to lash Tait. If we can get at him and unsettle him the faster you bowl then the further you can be hit (ala Turner).
I think that by putting CK up front will put us on the defensive straight up. Hope Kies is reading this and proves me wrong though.
The worrying thing about Craig in his recent endeavours for England is not that he has not been able to bat for a long time, but more so that he's not looked fluent and so has not been able to score quickly, either. Indeed, he's probably been beaten by Strauss in terms of runs per balls in most if not all of the games?
I see that you can watch the match live at the county ground; they don’t say what language the commentary is in, unless Grockle will be sat next to the TV with a microphone helping out.
Very small crowd. There won't be much of an atmosphere. All the necessary links are on the frontpage for this one. From Glamorgan's point of view this is a semi-dead rubber.
Qualification is possible but they need some favours from others. We need to win two out of three.

To be fair, when we played there last year, only Zander achieved anything on their track. So, we probably should not count chickens yet, even though we currently have several players in pretty good form, including Tres and Hildreth with the bat.
Turner has certainly hit back in style at suggestions that he might be replaced by Max. It sounds like this is very much a sporting track for pace bowling, as opposed to the bunsen that I had anticipated.
Then again, it sounds like there is turn out there for Kartik too.
Sounds like a really rough start for Craig vs the talented James Harris. Jim Allenby is a good T20 bowler, too, and it sounded like there was some turn for Kartik and they have three spinners.
I rather get the impression this is the kind of wicket on which one very good batting performance wins the game - as was the case last year when Zander played that innings.

So, it seems to boil down to the fact that we based our recruitment policy on an ECB press release, rather than having anyone check the actual regulations after they had been written up.
No, BR, there was not so much as an admission of error on the club's part. It was very much a case of intimating that, as far as the ECB is concerned, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
The interviewer did not ask what the finanical implications of the mistake were, which I think he should have tried to ask about.

So the quarter finals are listed on SKy as coverage starting at 4pm and 7pm on 26th and 27th of July. This has been skillfully arranged with my Shift work so that I may be unable to go to the game. My hope is for one of the 7pm slots so I can make all but the first few minutes...
I tried to look into whether we would be able to choose starting time as a home side, but no joy and I presume it's dictated by the Murdoch army.
And to opptimistically look ahead, I am on a night shift on 14th of August when finals day is, so for the 2nd year running look unlike being able to go.
Nice to see the lads dish out a beating to that lot from over the bridge.
What a shambles Glamorgan were,apart from Tom Maynard who played well. And the crowd was poor for a floodlit game. No more than 1500 there.

I think the capacity would be more than that with all the temporary stands erected there.I bought my ticket on line on tuesday and it arrived yesterday.
