Rain in the air, water on the ground, covers on the field and not too much hope in the heart. The outfield does look like it is soaking the stuff up but there is a lot of stuff and at 5:20 there is no chance at all that we will start on time. A five over slog at 8?...it's still possible.
v Surrey FLT20 @ Taunton Friday 17 June 2011

Commentary
The side for tonight - RvdM's last game for this year (who knows in the future you're always welcome back as far as 1 supporter is concerned Reolof)
The squad is unchanged and if we assume Compton won't be fit the side will be unchanged;
Trescothick, Kieswetter, van der Merwe, Trego, Hildreth, Buttler, Compton, Suppiah, Meschede, Kartik, Kirby and Hussain.
Whether there will be play is an entirely different matter and in the lap of the Gods at the moment.
The umpires took to the field :at 6:00 to check the surface, didn't stay on it too long and made a B line for the groundsman's shed to talk through the possibilities. They decided to re-inspect at 6:30 but to be honest there was no chance then because the rain had increased it's hold on the evening and didn't even look like giving ground to a bunch of cricketers.
And as predicted the officials call the game off on time and we lose the third game opportunity on the bounce. Three in a row for the first time (someone said that we've never had two in a row completely called off before)
So...now these games start to have an effect. We've had more than anyone else in our half of the draw and we need to win everything we play from here on in if we hope for a home draw in the quarters...and if we lose one we may struggle to stay in the top four entirely.
But Glamorgan here next week and the little matter of the Championship against Warwickshire in the week.
Happy days.........
Surrey but not sunny

The rain won't have stopped in time to get even that up and running I'm afraid. I'd say 'no chance' but I'll let the umps say that in possibly a few minutes.
If you log on to the BBC Bristol commentary there is silence, but tha BBC London commentary is running - the commentators are getting pictures of each other in front of 'that pane of glass' - actually the replaced pane after Pete Trego put a ball through it and hit Ed Bevan
Would think the only match in the South group with a chance of play this evening is Glamorgan v Hants, if it isn't actually raining, due to the better drainage system at Sophia Gardens
Well I enjoyed a pint in the main bar for an hour.. by the time we'd got to Burnham on the M5 the skies had brightened and by WSM the sun was trying to poke its face out. Now back in Portishead and its dry!
Very frustrating that the worst of the rain hit middle of Taunton. Seemed to get heavier about 6pm too.
At least I'll be at Glastonbury next Friday... oh...
