Huddersfield born and bred John was snapped up as a youngster by Huddersfield Town in 2003. He was deemed as the next Jon Stead by many around the west-yorkshire town, even scoring against the Stags in that all important 3-1 win at the Galpharm Stadium back in 2004 just before the play-off final.

The six foot four striker has since been out on loan at both Wrexham and Torquay but failed to impact at both clubs playing three times for each and scoring no goals. He then joined the Stags at the start of the 07/08 season on the same day as Dan Martin.

In the build-up to the season John scored a great header against premiership outfit Derby County and declared himself to be the 20 goal-a-season man that Mansfield are crying out for. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case as he's clocked up 2 goals this season, with Jefferson Louis coming into the club it seems Dearden has lost confidence in John and won't get too many chances to add to his goal tally.
