Position: Striker

Previous Clubs: Matlock Town

Squad Number: 18
Young striker Ian joined the club from local Unibond Premier Division side Matlock Town. In 2006–07, Holmes was the top goalscorer in the Unibond Premier with 34 goals in all league and cup competitions. Shortly after Dearden snapped him up on a two year deal hoping for him to be a great prospect in the future.
Since being at the club Ian seems to have grown in both confidence and physical ability. He has excelled in cup competitions with his first goal in the yellow shirt coming against Lewes in the 1st round of the cup at Field Mill. He came off the bench to flick the ball over the head, co-incidentally grabbing the winning goal to take Mansfield through to take on Harrogate Railway.
The main highlight of his short Stags career came when he scored the winner away at Brighton to again put Mansfield through in the cup, a memorable match in the overall depressing 2007/08 season. He soon after came off the bench against Lincoln away on a tuesday night. Most Stags fans remember that moment as when Ian Holmes left his mark, changing the game for Mansfield to go onto a 2-1 win, the young striker setting up Boulding in the 93rd minute.
It is needless to say that Holmes could achieve great things at this club given the chance. He has been overlooked by Simon Brown and more recently Jefferson Louis but when partnered with top scorer Boulding he has looked absolutely fantastic and is a great prospect for the 2008/09 season.
