Rumours have been going around about certain clauses in certain players contracts all season. But now Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has finally admitted that the rumours are true and some of the seasiders players have minimum release fee clauses in there contracts. Although no names where mentioned many fans are speculating that Wes Hoolahan is one of the players sucject to such a stipulation.
Oyston told the Blackpool Gazette,"If the only way you can get a player is to have these clauses, then you've got to take that. If they then go under those clauses, a deal is a deal and you have to take it on the chin."
Oyston insists the club reluctantly agree to these conditions as it is the only way to secure some players to contracts. He said "If the choice is have the player with the clause or don't have the player at all, then from our point of view we've got to have the player with the clause."
This is great for a player who has aspirations to play elsewhere, but could cost the club thousands if not millions of pounds when it comes to it's better players. But Oyston insists "If that comes back to haunt us it comes back to haunt us, but I think I would stand behind having them with the clause rather than not having them at all, which is the alternative."
