Steve's Review: Pool vs Saints
By Seaside Steve

This Saturday there was a ceromony at which a portrait of Alan Ball was unvieled. The charoal portrait is fabulous, well done BSA! Alan Ball was one of the best player's I ever got to see, i was only eight when he moved onto Everton. He later had a spell at Southampton, he really was a tremendous player but what he would of made of Saturday's action only god knows. (Seaside Steve Writes)
In my opinion it was poor game which we went into wrong and it would appear after reading the Gazette tonight that Grayson agree's squad selection was wrong. Paul Dickov walked back into the first team which I have no problems with. But Jorgenson in the middle for me was wrong we needed some muscle such as Flynn or Greeny. Another thing that I noticed on Saturday is that the defence isn't as golden as we once thought and before the usual suspects start there bring back Clarke call's may I suggest we look around for a proven 27 year old something with lots of championship experience? It's obvious we need someone to sit next to Gorkks at the back.
Anyway onto the game, as rocky couldn't attend again due to unforseen cirumstance I was requested to do yet another match report. Which for an "old codger" as he call's me has now become a way of venting my frustrations after a game in a sort of thereputic way. Forgive me if I digress, i'm a 50 year old man who's taken one to many bumps to the head to focus.
But anyway onto the game when it started i wanted it to be over. After the first five minutes I turned to a balding supporter of our who sits near me in my prefered J block stand. "This one's going for a draw". Only wish I had bet on it now when I went for my half time slash and pie.
Southern had a shot after about twenty minute's, he fired wide much to the dissapointment of the 'Tangerine Army' who where once again bouncing through excellent drumming. After this we seemed to step up a little bit and maybe should have had a goal a little later when we won a free kick. Crainey failed to convert though despite it been "crainey territory".
Shortly after we were one nil down, to which hundreds of seats round Bloomfield Road must of been kicked in frustration. Some clown that the FA deem suitable to referee awarded the most rediculous penalty in the world. For those who've seen black Colin referee the Sunday league, i'm sure you'll agree this decision was worse then one of his. At least he would have "Gave them nothing".
Anyway penalty taken and went in, how angry I was at this point I can not put into words. Kaspars was doing what defenders are supposed to and to deem his tackle a foul is stupid.
I shall move on before my blood pressure rises again, after the stupid penalty we tried to get back in to the game, but Southampton managed to break before one of there players put the ball wide. Half time whistle was again a saviour to us. Not only because I was hungry and the pies at Bloomfield Road are quite tasty but i feel as things were goin on a defeat was inevitable.
After half time, with Simon Grayson's boot still stuck up there arse, the players came out at 100 miles an hour. Luckily they were on private property. I was recently unlucky enough to end up in bother for speeding. For goodness sake, Okay I was outside a school doing 47mph. But it had just gone past 11am and the children were in class. What sort of society do we live in. They were probably to busy throwing paper airplanes at polish supply teachers to get run over by my shiney BMW. Anyway mother always told me, that if you going to get run over, get run over by a crap car so then we don't have to pay for any damage to the car.
Anyway 100mph the players come out, "full steam ahead" the captain of the goodship tangerine cried.
"Aye aye captain" responded Kieth Southern who planted the ball home for an equliser I would kiss my next door neighbours dog for. Gnashers as he is nicknamed by his numskull team mates, fired home a header with that most beautifal head of his. I turned around and grabbed an elderly lady in celebration but I think I may have shook her a bit to much. She kept given me evil looks and the next time I glanced at the pitch you will never guess what was happening. Kaspars was in the box, my heart stopped, the ball came in and he sent it into the back of the net.
JOY! We're 2-1 up, I did a little happy dance and went to shake the lady near me, but she fired over a look that could kill even the best secret agent. Anyway we were on top at this point and i'll be honest, i needed a crap, these things happen as you get old. Your Bladder tell's you went to go, not the other way round.
So I went to the toilet and as i finished wiping I hear a huge mass of expletives, I run back to the stand and see some Southampton players running back to there half. I was wandering what had happened only hoping someone had let one off and they where all trying to avoid it. But it turned out, they had scored.
I was so damn angry I kicked my chair and got told off by a steward who looks like he's just got out of pampers. As i focussed back on the game, they where on the break, this to me is unnaceptable at Bloomfield Road you should be boxed it in and thankful if you get one break and when you do some meathead clobbers you. But it's not like that now and they nearly fired home but it was cleared by a pool player.
The game continued with us having the odd attack and maybe have a case for three points when Wes had a shot in the final few minutes of the game. However it went wide.
I left the ground feeling dissapointed, knowing if we play like that against Preston they will beat us. Anyway I was soon back to my jolly old self after a visit to a local public house where I drank numerous beverages whilst watching the cockneys get knocked out the cup.
Anyway thanks for reading email me steve@tangerine-planet.co.uk
Up the Pool!
