The League Cup us ridiculed by some. But to Blackpool fans it's always been a bit special and highlights from the tournament over the last decade have been wins against Birmingham City and games against Crystal Palace and Tottenham. Last years run to the fourth round earned the club more then £250,000 and tonight at Macclesfield the quest starts again but how far will the Seasiders go?
Squad selection is going to be hard for Grayson. Not because players are unavailable but because permission to play, for all five loan players has been given. It may mean a start for Matt Gilks and there's a chance of a new formation from Saturday as Grayson may use this as a training exercise.
Barker and Crainey once again sit out, up front Grayson's options are again limited. Steve Kabba is back at Watford receiving treatment although there's no word on if he'll be back or not. Stephen McPhee a six figure capture from Hull City last year is still unavailable, Daniel Nardiello is also out.
So Aluko maybe given his debut, with Blackpool reverting to a traditional 4-4-2. Strangely even the Mr Negative in me See's this partnership working. Burgess can hold the ball well and distribute well. When given an extra yard on man he looks like scoring. Aluko is a quicker player who can run onto through balls and get up front whilst Burgess holds the ball up. It will be an interesting partnership that's for sure.
David Vaughan is unlikely to play, the 25 year old is only said be 70% fit, he started pre-season last week with former club Real Sociedad and that means he's behind the current crop of players.
However for all those been Doom and Gloom about this can I remind you that Wes Hoolahan in his first season for us failed to impress in his first ten games, because his fitness was behind that of his team mates.
